One more reason I prefer our flawed health care system in the states.

That is RIDICULOUS!

I would bang of the administrators. If you and other fightiin' mad parents do it, they will change the policy and/or allow exceptions. The only way to get change is to demand it.

well...our hospital sucks lol.

Like I said the MRI kids get it first. I can understand why they dont just hire more anestesiologist

you are right...you guys my pay, but atleast you can demand customer service. The cancer parents I know in the states get a phone call the day of thier kids scans and are told results, we have to wait atleast a week to find out if our son has relapsed or not...you have NO idea what that week is like for us.

I did write my letter to the administration. I got back and long winded response about how they desperse the staff through the departments la la la la la....got me no where. Other parents I know wrote letters too. But our kids eventually learned to do scans without sedation...so the complaining stops, new parents start...its a circle that just goes round and round.

I'd turn into a grizzly bear and go beyond the letters. Maybe a letter to a newspaper or the THREAT of a letter to a newspaper if they don't make a change.

There is NO excuse for the issue regarding results.

I've worked for major corporations. Squeaky wheels that went right to the CEO got results. If I were you, I'd make 2013 my year to get this facility on the right track. What they are doing is just WRONG.

ive seen several fights. Our health care is different, it is not consumer based, it is hospital staff based.

I had to fight long and hard enough over serveral other issues, such as arguements over breast milk allowed 4 or 6 hours before sedation. I have enough of my plate without taking on Canadas flaws of healthcare.

you are right. you DO have a lot on your plate and i'm sure being in a clinical setting for a conflict isnt where you want to spend any more time than you must.

hopefully, somebody will take this issue on.

wow. I think that is the MOST understanding post I have ever seen on BG. Thank you.

I dont know, it sucks...but really, what part of being in the childrens hospital world doesnt...KWIM? It all sucks. I guess eventually you just get use to it, as bad as that sounds.

Having worked in hospitals and in pediatrics here in the US, ive noticed that very often, stupid procedures/policies only get changed when a senior person on staff has a grandchild that has to go thru it. THEN they suddenly see how stupid they have been for decades. Ugh!

The daycare has no choice.....they have to feed him. If they were reported for not feeding a child (whether or not it is dr ordered or not) they can get shut down.

I completely understand, as stated.

What I was doing with this post was being devils advocate. Looking at it in the best interest of the child, not the daycare. (as it is doctors orders due to fatality factor involved when a child is sedated).

Like a child who has a severe reaction to nuts. Therefore they have banned all nut products inside the school.Well, even though my sons condition is a one day ordeal....it is still life or death....so why cant rules be changed KWIM.

When the daycare advised me, I did not argue or cause a fuss. He is my responsibility, and his life is for me to care for, and I have no problem what so ever, and have complete understanding for the positin of the daycare. And honesly, I want them there to improve his happy life, keeping them out of our sadness in life is all the better for my son in many ways.

do you go to CHEU?

in all honesty. you dont have to fast for that long. he can have clear liquids for up to 2 hours before a procedure. thats how they do little kids at our hospital. even for my sons open heart surgery, he was allowed clear liquids up to 2 hours before, and breastmilk up to 4 (formula was 6hours)

I have no idea what CHEU is.

No, he is only allowed 4 oz of clear fluids up to 4 hours before. Breastmilk was an arguement when he was under a year. Some would allow it 4 hours before, some would say it is not clear fluid and would only let it 6 hours before and make us wait if I had fed him.
Plus...now hes a 3 year old eating whatever he wants, not a little infant. Fasting days are much different for us now. Especially when he can look at you and say 'Cereal please mama'

i dont really have anything to say that hasnt already been said...

i really hope the CT scan goes well, and everything is painless and easy for your son. most importantly, lets pray for some awesome 110% healthy-man scans!!!

thinking about you! will the doctor go over the images right then and there and give you a preliminary results/report? i cant imagine how difficult it is stilling around and waiting for the "all clear" phone call... you must just pace back and forth :-)
