dilation and pitocin

posted 27th Dec
so my doctor set my induction date for january 2nd, i have an apt at 130 to check how dilated i am, and he said if i am dilated enough, he would send me to the hospital RIGHT after to start pitocin. if i wasn't, then i have to wait a few more hours til my induction time and they'd start me with a pill to help me start dilating.

Question is does anybody know how dilated you have to be to automatically go to pitocin? because im sure the pitocin wouldnt work unless your a certain amount dilated right?

I was 5 cm and they just broke my water.
I would ask for that over pitocin.

The pill put me into labor. They gave it to me at night, I was 0cm and I was supposed to go to sleep and start pitocin in the morning. My water broke at 2am and I had my son by 9:30am. They never gave me the pitocin.
Good luck! Hopefully the pill does enough for you and you don't need the pitocin. Better yet, hopefully you have that baby before Jan. 2!

Be careful.
Do you plan on getting an epidural?

With Pitocin, it can kick start your contractions [as we all know], but then when they get strong you'll ask for your epidural; then with the epidural, it'll slow down the pitocin and contractions..because of that, they will then bump up your dose to Pitocin. If it doesn't go smoothly, they'll label you as a failure to progess, and schedule a c-section- it's a never ending cycle.

I'm not a hippie "all natural" woman. I'm just telling you what I went through, for four days.
I'd try and delay Pit as long as possible.

I was at 1 cm. I was on pitocin for 12 hours with nothing happening not even a real contraction. I got a foley bulb at 12 hours and that helped a lot! I went into real labor. My fluid was to low to break my water so I was in labor awhile.

Yeah I'd try to go as long as possible because of the exact reasons another mom just stated a few comments before this one. With my first I was uneducated but I will never ever agree to be induced again unless medically necessary. Idc if I go to 44 weeks lol

Last time the dr wanted me to be over 3 cm's before they started pitocin and broke my water. I'm always about 2 or 3 cm's dilated when i'm getting induced.

im trying not to get an epidural this time. but it sounded as if i had to get pitocin cause i am not dilating any more than i have in like 2-3 weeks.

im not really sure =/ lol i had the pill and pitocin with my last, so its nothing new to me, and i didnt know like what it was. but i mean i want to dilate but be in less pain possible as natural as i can.

Wellll technically you don't have to, there's nothing your doctor can do to make you but anyway good luck! I went 10 days past due with my son and it was well worth it because as soon as my body was ready he came out very fast and easy
41 weeks is great though, I just hate pitocin and what it can do to you and baby.

yea i know, im not the biggest fan of it either, but its not horrible. and i was high risk with my first by getting pre-eclampsia so he doesnt want me going to far but thats just the way their system works that they dont let women go much over 41 weeks, as long as their bp and everything is okay to even go that far.

i dunno, im really hoping she will come out herself. lol.

The only advice I have is spend the whole day before your appointment cleaning like a madwoman   Then get up that morning and clean some more, go for a walk, bounce on a ball, etc.
I went in to the hospital at 6pm to get checked in, settled, get the pill etc and I spent about 6-8 hours that day cleaning nonstop which I am pretty sure contributed
