and I have kids at all different ages, so I get a wide variety of toys to choose from  

My son used to be terrified of this little dinosaur that when you pushed his back he roared. It seriously was no bigger than my hand and it would make him flip the smurf out.
So I hid it on top of the fridge.
When his tantrums would get out of control and he refused to listen all I had to do was push it's button and he would stop... lol I know it sounds like awful parenting but it worked like a charm.
Dh and I called it "discipline dinosaur"

I have done the same thing with pink balloons   DD HATES pink balloons, always has LMAO
