SIDS nightmares

I know iv been obsessing lately about SIDS, and worrisome about it happening. I keep have awful nightmares that dd will die from SIDS. I know it sounds morbid but i feel like its going to happen. I hate it. I dont want to worry about it anymore. I keep ready horrifying stories which doesnt help... anyone else ever worry THIS much about it?

I did. To the point where I barely slept because I was always checking to make sure DS was still breathing.

BD ended up putting his foot down and saying if it was God's will, no amount of checking would prevent it from happening. Took me awhile to get over it but I eventually did.

If you can afford it they have these pads that go under the mattress that detect movement from breathing and such. If they stop an alarm goes off. I hear some give false alarms but it's worth a shot if it gives you peace of mind.

I asked DDs pedi and the doctor at boston childrens about those and for some reason doctors are very against them. the boston childrens hospital doctor told me that when a baby dies from sids they cant be resuscitated so its basically a alarm for when your child is dead...

I know, I was already to buy one too :/ I feel bad for my kid, I use the flash light app on my phone like 12 times a night to check on her lol

SIDS is still a very mysterious thing. ALL you can really do is take the proper precautions to avoid suffocation in the crib (which I know is something different) and hope for the best. I would honestly stop reading the stories, you are going to drive yourself nuts. There's no harm in checking on a sleeping baby, all mothers do. If you are doing it obsessively maybe you should speak to your own Dr. You might have PPD or anxiety.

If it alarms you if they stop moving/breathing, and you arnt past the point of resuscitation for 4 minutes how can that be?

the doctor said its because they stopped breathing, they arent choking or suffocating. you cant revive when they just stop i guess.

It could be like the epilepsy thing that caused my friend father to pass. Once it's in progress it does something to the heart (i believe) that is irreversible.

yeah i read a bunch of stories where they tried to resuscitate and they were never successful. one mother even witnessed it happen and couldnt save the baby.  

My best friends son died from SIDS when my daughter was just 5mo old so I hardly ever slept and drove myself insane and started trying for my secon child and went and took a class on SIDS and there is just nothing you can do to prevent SIDS just make sure there are no smothering hazards around and its not crazy I think to be a concerned parent but after 6mo the chances of it happening go down dramatically. If you feel you should talk to a therapist or something do so but dont be upset with yourself for being concerned.

Yeah i see a therapist for PPD which is practically gone... but i still have my days where i obsess about stupid smurf i cant control... i obviously have ocd too :/

Anyhoo, I know how you feel! I am terrified/obsessed with SIDS. I think about constantly and barely sleep at night. I just have this feeling of impending doom My daughter is 2months and already sleeps through the night, but the poor thing gets poked and prodded by me ALL NIGHT LONG. I'm constantly shining my phone in her face or feeling for her breath.
I also read about it and torture myself with stories way too much.I have an anxiety disorder and ocd that I take meds fo,r but I wonder if maybe I have a bit of ppd, because this doesn't feel normal. I worried when my son was newborn but nothing like this.
On a happier note, there is a girl in my due date group that found her daughter completely unconscious a few weeks ago. She wasn't breathing and had no pulse, but she was able to resuscitate her w/cpr. After a week of testing, doctors labeled it a SIDS incident. So, maybe there is hope for some cases...

Well I beliee there is absolutely nothing wrong with being a concerned and sometimes overly concerned parent that just means you are a good parent! What else do mothers want for their children more than for them to be safe hopefully in time you will be able to let go a little and enjoy the time more instead of stress over it but if it makes you feel better to check on your child 15 times a night then do it. (My opinion and I know some ppl wouldnt agree) but I DONT CARE! lol.
