Atkins and no/low carb diets....

posted 27th Dec
I really want to try this kind of diet. I know a couple people that have used it and it showed great results for them, but Im not really sure how it works. Anyone have expierience with this type of dieting before? Also, DF and I are TTC, would I be able to keep up a low-carb lifestyle if I were to get pregnant?? TIA

yes it does work great and you can do it while pregnant. What you would be eating is mostly meat and veggies.

Nothing white
bread
pasta
potatos
sugar
soda

you can have whole grain bread and brown rice though

Isn't there a "special" formula thing that you have to subtract the carbs from sugars or somthing? lol--clearly I have no idea how it works!

I have, and I lost 40 pounds while on it.
I have stopped due to the holidays, and I have gained a few pounds back. It's definitely a lifestyle change.
If you're not prepared to do this for the long haul, I wouldn't recommend doing it.

nope it's really easy. Just don't eat certain foods and your good. I did always have a cheat day once a week and ate whatever I wanted

A lot of people subtract the fiber from the sugar - thats how my mom did it. She lost over 100lbs doing low carb.

I am plannig on changing my lifestyle for the long-haul. Thats why I was concerned if I could continue it while pregnant

I thought you subtracted the fiber from the carbs, and that's how you get 'net carbs'?

Good for you! Good luck with it! It's hard at first, but it comes natural after a while.

It's great for quick results, but it is hard to maintain.

Instead of Atkins, I would look at South Beach or the Paleo Diet, it is more sustainable.

Sounds easy enough   lol. When I was looking it up online it seems really complicated. But I think I would also have to have a "cheat day" like once a mont hor so, because I am a pasta adddict lol

I did eat the dreamfields pasta every now and then, but mostly used brown rice and got to really like it. When you make brown rice make sure you cook it with chicken or beef broth so it tastes better.

I was just about to mention that! It's like 5 net carbs per serving.

So you subtract the fiber from carbs and get net carbs? But how many net carbs are you allowed to have per serving??
