Love the pre made boxes idea! And if people can't get to a specified location, they could always be shipped to the nearest grocery store. Its not impossible and I think it would be amazing.

I do a program called bountiful baskets which is amazing! Pay 15 bucks and get an assortment of awesome fresh produce. Its a co-op. Bit some of these things I would have never bought on my own. Yet I was forced to try new recipes and foods and it is just amazing what I came up with. So delicious and healthy!

See of you guys have BB in your state because its seriously the neatest thing!

I love the idea of BB but when I ordered their organic box it wasn't really worth it.   I wouldn't mind so much except that they put a lot of "dirty dozen" foods in there. I wish they did the organic box more like they do the regular box!

They'd have to have some kind of "depot" or even trucks that had a schedule for when they'd be in certain places.
BUT, this is all dreaming. The "left" would never tolerate asking those in need do anything different than anyone else.

Very true.

They do have a "good" program here where you can double your foodstamps at the farmer's market. I love this idea.

Fast food isn't always cheap food...that is a misconception. Our average meal costs $3 per person and includes fresh meats and veg.

Fast food is not cheaper than cooking from scratch in any stretch of the imagination. That's a commonly held misconception. Also, this would not apply to those on foodstamps as they cannot buy fast food. ALSO many people on foodstamps have more than enough to buy healthy food, they just choose not to. A full alotment for a family of my size in the state of California is more than I spend on groceries in 2 months and we eat pretty healthy.

I have noticed that in the US it is usually more expensive to eat fresher food. Here in the UK, fast food and take-outs are expensive and therefore we only have them as a rare treat. In the US I got a ridiculous amount of fast food for hardly any money at all and unlimited soda refills etc, not to mention the portions were massive.
This isn't the only cause of obesity though, as I am obese yet my fast food intake is very low (I am just a choccy fiend hehe) but I do think food outlets should charge more for their fast food or reduce their portions, one or the two.

I don't get this... I spend $10 a meal for a family of five (2 grown men, me, and 2 kids)... if that. That would include a starch, two veggies, and a protien. AND I'm on a gluten free diet to boot! When we go fast food we spend at least $25 if not more.

Same here. $10-15 per meal for us 3 including enough leftovers for DH's lunch the next day.

That's good. I was only saying what I experienced in US. It could be just in big cities or in very busy tourist areas that have the low cost fast food. I have only visited Las Vegas, NYC, Miami, LA and Chicago.

You can eat VERY cheaply at fast food. The dollar menu plus your own drink works well if you have very little money.
But, most people do it because they are lazy.
also, spices are very expensive here and, since the feminist movement, lots of women shun being in the kitchen and were never taught some basics. It's sad.

Yeah it's probably because you didn't know where to go and whatnot and were just visiting. Those places you listed are some of the most pricey around, besides. Vegas and NYC especially ridiculous.

Inane cases it is though. It costs me 10 dollars to feed us pizza from little Caesars, about 15 at home. It just depends on where you go...
