IMO, that's how it should be everywhere. People should earn their money (if they're not already working). Everyone else has to work 8-5 M-F... so why is it such a travesty that needy people should too?

Holy weight loss batman! You look great.
I'm headed there. I've lost 35 just by becoming a vegetarian.

Ha ha.. thanks! Those are make up pictures, and I rarely do that anymore! I think we look a lot alike!

And thank you! I was working on it for a while. October I got pregnant and gained like 30 pounds. Had a D&C this month though and need to lose that again! UGH. Way to go on your weight loss! That is amazing!

Yeah I look different too when I do my makeup (more than the natural stuff). I wish I could get my hair to stay dark though. It comes out too fast.

And thank you

How did you lose so much? Like how/what did you eat? And what type of exercise?

I was so stupid.. I didnt exercise until after a majority of the weight came off, but I did natural eating! tons of water and prepared about 85% of food myself (with the exception of things like cheese/yogurt, etc. I also kept my carbs low, and that really helped!

Hmm sounds about like what I've been doing. The only frozen stuff I've been eating is Morningstar products and veggies. Gotta get more water in though.

It's not likely things will ever change. It's a fact we must accept people on food stamps will always eat better than us poor working folks.

I think people should too, but the thing is, they punish you if you CAN'T do it . If you are poor and need food stamps, chances are you can't afford a car either, which means you can't get to the place to work for the state. For some reason, the world seems to think that truly needy people own vehicles and can pay for gas to go all over creation...and if you are truly poor, you most likely don't even OWN a car. It's hard to get out of a rut when you can't even get a leg up on it in order to get out...No one knows how hard it is to do unless they've lived it.

I guess it depends on the state/case because my aunt and uncle certainly eat better than us (tons of good quality meat for example, we can barely afford to eat meat at all). They are also all obese, even the kids. They are not lacking, that's for sure.

If they cant get anyplace.... how can they break the cycle and ever get off of assistance?

Is there no public transportation where you are? Many people dont have cars and rely on buses, etc... they still have jobs. I'm not trying to argue, but I think the point is that they're trying to get people to take responsibility in getting off welfare by working for the state or getting jobs of their own. A car shouldnt have anything to do with it, IMO

Makes sense. There is a huge link between the population of obese children and adults... and poverty.

Isn't it funny that people view the government putting a WIC-style program in place as controlling and fascistic.
What is wrong with giving people a list of 20 wholesome and varied foods to choose from when spending government money?

And, for those you say we SHOULD do it, it will never happen because of the food lobby from the makers of crap. Hamburger helper has a big team of lobbyists.

Agreed. We have a good public transportation system here but some places its not good at all. Near my house the bus doesnt run on weekends and you can only get the bus until 7. The busses dont run often. Then, in March the bus line that does go near me will be stopped. It can get pricey to ride the bus/light rail across town. If you dont catch your last bus or it comes early, you are screwed and are taking a cab home. And waiting for a bus in Colorado blizzards SUCKS.

My Mom is on disability and gets food stamps, she cant work and I cant get a job even with my degree. I work under 20 hours a week because if Iwork more I lose my insurance, and then even working 40 hours a week wouldnt cover my medical needs.

Its sick that in this country people go hungry or without insurance.
