He puts himself to bed saying he is tired (so he doesnt have to do anything). I have never punished him for it, he is only 5. I am going to look into the montessori idea, thank you
I am not homeschooling to teach him things he isnt ready for, please everyone understand that, I am NOT trying to push him, we were just told recently that it was important for him to start learning to sit down and do something. Crafts, coloring, reading, counting, hands on play, anything really. Worksheets was all he would do, hence us talking about it right now

My LO is 4 and not in any kind of preschool because my district doesn't offer public preK. She'll start kinder in the fall

She sees an OT once a week, but even that will be stopped cause she has met her goals.

PreK is optional. You don't have to do anything with him until Kinder. I would just let him be for now, until you speak with the therapist

And if it helps, my daughter is suspected of having Asbergers as well (just waiting for the testing appt)


Can you get him into a sport or club? If he sees other kids doing something, it might prompt him to follow suit

We had to pull dean out of private school for almost same reasons, he has adhd and odd an the private school was worst thing for him m teachers didn't want to deal with him and students didn't want him around after his many meltdowns... I lost over 2,000. Just in that month he was in school, we put him in public school I asked for 504 plan and have been working closely with his teacher daily, the kids don't even bat an eye when he has his episodes... I never would have thought a public school would be this beneficial to him, theres another kid in his class who is similar to him, so hes around someone who understands him, dean sees hes not the only one... If this school didn't work out for him home school is next option but hes happy, just explore all ur options....he deserves the class room enviorment and to have friends every day...

I agree. Op, have you thought about having him take an art, dance, or gymnastics class? Being in a group learning environment where its more fun than work might help him to understand.
My son was in gymnastics and on soccer teams since he was 4 and it has helped him to learn both social expectations and also to accept that being quiet and following instructions is important sometimes but without being super structured and without making me the only authoritative figure in his life, so that he understands the importance of respecting his teachers/coaches. Kwim?

Yes i have dropped it for now. I promise I am not trying to push him accademically, idk if it sounded that way or what, but all he thinks about/talks about is video games at the moment, and to help his fine motor skills as well as his focus we had a list of things to try to work on which he refused most days.
I want to get him into swimming but the Y doesnt do month to month memberships (is this a thing??), only yearly, and we will not be in this state for another year.

You can get a program membership to the Y amd just sign up for one swimming lesson session. They typically run for 8 weeks

You don't have to be a member for that, though it will cost more.

i am calling them right now, all they have on their site is the membership fees so i thought thats all they did

Nope. You can sign up for different prgrams without being a member.

My daughter had major sensory issues. But she started swim lessons a few months ago and she is like a different child! It's helped her in every aspect of her life. I hope it does good for your LO as well
