TTC advice that helped me

posted 27th Dec
I'm not TTC currently but after 7 months with no luck while TTC my 2nd child, my Dr. mentioned the word that cured MY issue and I concieved my daughter the night that I did this one special word......HYSTEROSALPINGOGRAM.

or HSG

and if any of you ladies think this is a scary word, it's not.

The best way to describe this procedure is to tell you that the doctor will advise you to abstain from sex from the the day of your period begins until your period ends and abstain until after your hsg is completed. call the doctor after your period ends. The doctor will schedule your hcg during your fertile period. they dosctor call you in for the procedure will open your cervix (a little crampy but it's worth it for anyone who's been through the anguish of 7 months or more of negative preganancy tests and timing sex)then the doctor will use a liquid sucrose (sugar water-like nonharmful liquid) to inject into your fallopian tubes and check them out xray-style to ensure there are no blackages and possibly (like me) clear them.

I remember the nurses chuckling and telling me to go home and spend some "quality time" my my fiance. I did

Well 40 weeks to that night I gave birth to my daughter.

Anyone TTc and having issues should ask your doctor if this easy little procedure would help you. It helped me. to anyone with concerns about pain during this procedure please dont be worried, contractions during childbirth are alot worse and for me it was just like period crampiness.

It may not be for everyone but this may help someone else and i hope it does. I only have one existing fallopian tube and the one existing was blocked.

Here's more information about the HSG with the correct medical terms. It doesnt hurt to ask your OB if this may help you so don't be emabrrassed to ask them.

This is not new. This is the first step in testing for infertility problems. It is this in conjunction with a sperm count.

I didnt want to put my fiance through that. i dont think any woman does. I just wanted to share the experience with others. I know its not new. i just think back to those funny nurses who hinted for me to go home and get in on with my hubby. Lol. It's like they were little fertility cheerleaders for me.

right! I had one done when we started seeing the doctor for infertility the first time round, still took many rounds/ months of clomid to concieve him. I'm glad I had it done, but it's a very preliminary test the is very commonly done for infertility. Some folks are lucky and concieve the cycle after the HSG, but most do not and end up on meds

Thru what? It is not the end of the world for them to make a small deposit. matter of fact, it is less of a situation for them to do that vs a woman getting spread eagle on a table to have a cold instrument shoved in her cervix to have a dye shot thru the uterus into the fallopian tubes to be watched via x-ray. If there are blockages it is rather painful.

Want to guess how I know?

Well, it isn't really advice because any woman who is infact struggling with real infertility issues has already been thru this route. Just saying. Glad that was where your journey ended

My second step was a laposcopy. I had terrible endometriosis. My bits and pieces weren't were they were supposed to be. My left ovary was fused to my colon, my left fallopian tube was wrapped around my small intestine and my entire left side of my uterus had adheared to my abdominal lining. It was a damn mess. I finally got pregnant on my own 11 months later. Oddly enough, when I was younger I had 3 m/c's then when I was ready to have children we had the problems. After the twins, I kept getting pregnant again. lol 2 more m/c and my son. Now I am getting a partial hysto Jan 3.

For some people, only having 1 fallopian tube is a real fertility issue as well. It was scary for me. After having my ectopic pregancy and only having one side left, you're always afraid of losing the 2nd tube when TTC. Improper implantation is always a greater chance to happen a 2nd time if it happened once. I'm an ectopic survivor. I almost bled to death. I hope noone ever has to go through that. I did. I hope the HSG helps anyone who had never heard of it. Like i said , my doctor had me do it after only 7 months of TTC but it was the magic little push my body needed.

right! it was bar none THE number one most painful thing I have ever done. that includes labor, intubation, and recovering from GBS. I had a blockage and it was aweful - I actually went blind from the pain for a few min. I think my DH rubbing one out was a little less traumatic then that

Again, any woman who is infact struggling with real infertility issues (not just starting to TTC) will already know all about this and will likely have already been down this road.

i'm not disagreeing with you at all. i'm not an expert on fertility. I did ask plenty of questions about IVF and clomid to my doctor. I'm simply sharing an experience with others. you dont have to make me feel bad for sharing. Like I said, the nurses encouraging words was the thing that really stuck out to me.

Timing, calanders, ovulation strips, preganacy tests, Preeseed, evening primrose oil on top of the other vitamins i took, robitussin, books, basal body temps, chasing my hubby down during my fertile time, reading article after article, babygaga questions and googleing every symptom under the sun. Trust me, i've been there, too. TTC is exhausting and i'm sprinkling some baby dust on everyone tonight.
