Overdue advice

Alright ladies, so I'll be a week overdue on Friday, and I just need some advice and to vent! I have been having super regular contractions for weeks that last for over a minute, but don't usually get any closer than 7-8 minutes apart. They are pretty painful (have to breath through them/have to stop talking), but they usually just end up tapering off. Every time I get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night I get a major contraction, but it seems like around bedtime is when they usually taper off. I am 2-3 cm dilated/70% effaced as of my last check. What I'm wondering is has anyone gone through this? And what are these damn contractions? I am getting so frustrated because I keep thinking it is time and then they just slowly get further apart and go away. I feel like my body isn't capable of going into labor at this point, which is probably irrational, I know. I have an appointment to see my Midwife on Friday to see how the baby is doing. But for mamas that went overdue, did you ever feel as if it just wasn't possible for your body to go into labor? Thanks!

Yes, and I did not go into labor. I never even had a contraction with DD #1.
I was 8 days late, and was induced.

That's what I'm afraid of = (. I'm scared of him being too overdue and something happening to him.

I don't think they will let you go so far overdue that it endangers him.
Don't worry. They just want to give him time to come on his own. Trust me, going into labor by yourself is a lot easier than being induced.
