re: Tell me about GD in pregnancy.

Are you askin about gestational diabetes?
if so I ended up with it this pregnancy. My first time I was just fine. I actually was under weight at the start of this pregn and still got it. It says over 25 which I'm not. Overweight which I'm not. And certain ethnicity which I didn't qualify for are big risk factors. I also had no diabetes in my family. Shocked me that I got it. I bombed the one hr test and then during the three hr I passed 1 out of 4. I had to watch my diet and check my sugars. If you take in to much sugar and your body doesn't use it the baby does. Which can result in big babies. So csection risk and the baby can be born with low blood sugar and jaundice. Plus preclampsia risk go up. From what I understand as soon as I deliver my body should go back to using sugar properly. But online claims I have a higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes within 10 yrs. Its crazy how different pregnancies can be. Congrats on your children  and glad you didn't have to go thru it. Its not fun

Ohh okay, okay.
I don't even know why i'm worried about it, i've had a healthy weight gain/pregnancy/etc so far, but it's been something i've been thinking about!

I have it. I know mine is likely caused by me being overweight. I have to test my blood sugar four times a day. Once right after I wake up, then two hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner. I take 5mg of a drug called Glyburide at night because my fasting levels are usually high.
I have been instructed to be on a low carb diet and exercise a little bit more. I have weekly NST's and ultrasounds to monitor the baby's growth and fluid levels. I am scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks for it.

if you have it, you're at a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes later on in life.

and if you have it and it isn't controlled, then your child is at greater risk for type 2 diabetes.

I wasn't old or obese when I had it, I wasn't even overweight.

that isn't the only reason. it has to do with your body not producing adequate amounts of insulin to keep up with increased blood sugar.

i can eat pasta just have to cut down the amount

as for the older and fat lol ladies , im one of them
but anyone can get it , im just more at risk due to age and weight

its just like down syndrome , they say that older woman are more likely to have a child with it , but i know people who are much younger and had a child with it

some people will get gd for no reason , its just one of those things
