What is progesterone and how does it help pregnancy? Does my doctor have to prescribe it to me? I've had two miscarriages so far.

It helps keep your body from rejecting the embryo/fetus. In cases of preterm labor, it can relax the uterine muscles to keep it from contracting. In early pregnancy, having too little progesterone can lead to miscarriage. I had one miscarriage due to it, and I am due to start progesterone injections in 4 weeks to see if it can keep me from going into preterm labor.

Your doctor has to pre-scribe it. It can help delay or prevent pre-term labor but if you ask your doctor or read and do research or call march of dimes who promotes it they will all tell you the same thing it can prevent it but they can't say it will prevent it every person is different I was prescribed it at 16 weeks due to having pre-term labor my last pregnancy there is an oral version, a shot version and a vaginal crème version.

Sometimes miscarriages are caused by dropping progesterone levels. If your PG level drops, it will cause a period and out goes the fetus.
You need a prescription for the injection.

My doctor prescribed pills after two miscarriages. I took it until week 13., and had a baby boy at 39 weeks  

I wish I knew about this two miscarriages ago. Does it help even.if it was my hcg levels that were dropping? I'm clueless about this stuff.

Oh yes! I forgot. You can take it orally. i was using it for IVF .

There are many reasons for miscarriages. some are known and some unknown.
The dropping progesterone issue happens to be a more common reason and is relatively easy to remedy.
Talk to you doc about trying it.

I took it for preterm labor. It didn't help me . So i didnt take it with my lasy baby. Imagine taht, went into labor sametime as with my last one. My cervix just sucks and my kids want the hell out early  ..Good Luck!

I am supposed to start the injections, but don't really know if they'll do any good or not. I took oral terbutaline with my 3rd baby, and it helped, but the side effects SUCKED.
