Quoting Supafly★:" That's what I THOUGHT he'd do after awhile but he just cries and cries. I think the most time I've ... [snip!] ... death and turned blue. So I'm a little worried about it. I do want to get him used to his crib without him freaking out in it. "
Yeah that would make me worried too. Do you know what he was choking on? Just spit up? Have they brought up reflux?
I know you said your SO hasn't been around much, but I've noticed if my youngest son hears me or sees me checking on him, that will drag things out too. That's why I always send DH in there now. lol Another book I'd recommend is
'The happiest baby on the block'. A couple of my friends swear by it.
As far as sleep, my oldest baby was moderately good at sleeping. I think he started sleeping through the night around 6ish months and it was off and on until he turned 1. From there he was in a pretty good schedule of taking a morning nap and an afternoon nap (about an hour each) until roughly 18 months. Then it dropped to 1 nap a day and in bed by 8pm. He's still doing that schedule now at 4.
My middle baby was harder. He was up every 2 hours or more until he was about a year old and I stopped bf'ing him. He was smallest baby. Not sure if there was a connection or not, but the kid likes to eat. He is 2 now and gets one nap per day and goes to bed at 8pm. If he misses that nap, he's hell on wheels until he falls asleep. He'll normally tell me that he's cold, bring over a blanket and then fall asleep on my nap if nap time didn't happen.
My youngest has been my easiest as far as sleep goes. He was huge when he was born (10lbs) and he slept through the night probably around the 2 month mark. There were bumps in the road, but he's been pretty good about sleeping. He did have some major reflux issues that made things a little complicated. He would actually launch solids out of his nose when he ate. It was unpleasant and scary for both of us. Fortunately he outgrew it by about 8 months.
He's still at the point where he's taking 2 naps per day and in bed around 8pm. He still wakes up around midnight though to nurse one time per night. He's pretty much done nursing, but the morning and late night feedings are still sticking around. I'll be honest... i'm kind of attached to that time. It will be sad when he outgrows it.
