Incomplete Miscarriage
posted 26th Dec
I'd be grateful for any advice,
I had a natural miscarriage 2 weeks ago but there's still a bit of tissue left which I found out when I had a scan last week. On Monday I went the hospital & I had 2 Misoprostol orally, they told me to go back in 72 hours if they don't work. I'm now into the 55th hour & no sign of it working as i've got no heavy bleeding or cramping all i've had is slight period pains at times which is sorted with pain killers. So it looks like i'm headed back to the hospital for a second dose sometime tomorrow.
Should the dose i've had already of worked or how long does it normally take to kick in, i'm getting so fed up now I just want it all out of me. It's bad enough losing my baby never mind not getting rid of everything

I'm so sorry for your loss. At this point I's ask for a D&C.

I'm trying to avoid having a D&C if I can help it, I'm to scared to as i've never had an operation before. It's not the D&C itself it's the anesthetic i'm scared of the most

Anesthesia can be a scary thought if you've never been through surgery before, I was scared of it until I had to have my gallbladder out. I really couldn't avoid it. Now, with that said, if you haven't passed the tissue completely, you could get a severe infection and go into sepsis, and sepsis can be fatal. I am not trying to scare you, but there are worse things than anesthesia.

im so sorry for your loss ive had this happen this to me almost every time that my body would not remove everything by itself. ive only had the tablets once though, and unfortunetly they didn't work for me, had 3 lots and still wouldn't come away, but i did have lots of cramping and bleeding with them, ended up with a d+c which really isnt that scary but i would rather be a sleep and get it over and done with, but that's me. hope ur second lot of tablets work for you x

I was terrified of the anesthesia too. They will give you something to calm your nerves. The scarriest part is right before you fall asleep. I've done it twice. It's not bad at all and before you know it, it's over.

I nearly had a D&C last Thursday but I was last to go down & I panicked so didn't go through with it but they never gave me anything to calm me down they just told me to phone my husband to come the hospital to calm me down. I'm honestly terrified but they refuse to do it with the epidural which i'd be more happier doing

I'm so sorry for your loss. I too wanted to avoid a d&c and I had retained tissue which the hospital recommended I get a d&c for. I said no and went to my doctor who said it was fine to wait until my next period to see if I passed it on my own. I was on antibiotics to prevent infection and after my first period I had an ultrasound that showed everything was gone. (I was never given any pills to speed up the process either)
I can really relate to your last line ... "It's bad enough losing my baby never mind not getting rid of everything" It was awful having to wait 5 weeks for the physical side of it to be over with.

I went the EPU & they done a scan then spoke to a gynaey doctor who said that there's still a 2cm clot there but no point giving me any more misopostal as last ones never worked & i'll pass it when I have my period in about 4 weeks time but never gave me any antibiotics as a precautionary measure. I've got an appointment at my own GP's soon to see what she says as i'm worried about getting an infection especially if it's going to be sitting the for another 4 weeks

i've had 5 miscarriages and 4 of those were D and C's, just had one yesterday. Personally the D and C was easier than natural( less pain). my 4th I did most of the labouring at home but like you, after 2 weeks I wasn't done so my doc gave me the option to have a D and C or continue to wait it out. I opted for the surgery even with the risks it gave me piece of mind to know that it was over and I could emotionally and physically move on. However you chose to continue we will all support you.
