Birth Control!???

I'm 35 weeks pregnant, and just started thinking about birth control. I asked my doctor, and he recommended the "breastfeeding birth control pill." I looked it up, and I'm not a fan of the idea of ingesting any hormones while I'm breastfeeding. Also, it looks like its that same kind of pill I was on before I got pregnant and I absolutely hated it. My periods went away completely and I felt horrible. So now I'm confused and I have questions for you mamas:
1- When did you go on birth control after giving birth?
2- What kind of birth control did you use?
Aside from condoms, are there any other good forms or non-hormonal birth control? I ask only because condoms give me utis a lot and my husband and i just generally hate them.

Majority of BC is hormonal. I went on Implanon.

Non hormonal:
Paraguard (IUD)
Diaphragm or Cervical cap
female condom
Spermacide

IUD's scare me, I have a friend who had her Mirena displace twice into her uterus going through the side.

I went for the mini pill its safe while breastfeeding. I started to take it 2wks after giving birth (midwife's orders). You can get paraguard, female condom? thats all I know.

I did mirena after the birth of my first and had no issues breastfeeding or problems with it while breastfeeding however I ended up having it removed b/c after I stopped breastfeeding I was having bleeding issues (but i had this problem when I wasn't on birthcontrol so I went back on the pill to stop the bleeding). Mirena didn't have enough hormones in it to fix my problem so I don't blame the mirena just my stupid body. I tried the minipill after the birth of my second and my supply dropped so we went to condoms. I would recommend you make sure you pee after having sex b/c more than likely that is the problem with the UTI's. Penetration pushing bacteria up into your urethra. I use to have that problem but never after I make sure to pee right afterwards. I hate condoms though b/c I hate that latex smell and the feel is different IMO..lol
