other religions celebrating Christian holidays

posted 25th Dec
I finally came out to my family as a non-Christian yesterday and even though everyone seemed cool with it. I was informed that it's fine for me to celebrate my own religions holidays and traditions, it was however a kick in the face to God if I even so much as invited Christmas into my house.

I was just wondering what other people thought about this?

I personally think we've ruined "Jesus' birthday" (and yes, I realize it isn't his real birthday) with how we've totally made it a consumers holiday. So, I think their point is invalid.

We do not teacher our children that the meaning of christmas is Jesus' birthday.

We do teach them, that it is a time for family, giving, and sharing.

I think it was more because we had an angel on the top of the tree (DS made it in daycare) ... since the tree itself, giving presents, and feasting are actually my religions winter solstace festivities.

We are not Christian's nor do we believe in God but we still celebrate. My MIL is religious and we are respectful of her home and religious traditions.

I am Jewish by family and even though I do not practice we as a family still do something to celebrate each of our Holiday's and I fast for Yom Kippur.

I guess it would bother u if u believed in a Christian god but since u don't...   no worries. Eh we celebrate Christmas n I'm not Christian/catholic,etc. I try to go to church for the kids sake but I lean more towards spirituality than organized religion- doesnt stop me from enjoying a good home cooked meal w family, decorating trees, singing carols, and getting excited when kids open their gifts we got them

To a degree I found it funny because 99% of the Christian traditions actually came from my belief system over a 1000 years before the birth of Christ

But, I don't invite Christ into my home. I invite that fat smurfing bastard in a red suit who totes around a bag full of goodies. Ah, smurf off, crazy Christians. Sorry, I know this isn't the proper way to D&D, but smurf it. I'm so sick and tired of hearing that I'm not allowed to do certain things or participate in holy smurfing holidays because I am without God.

We also celebrate Easter. Do you know why? Because I thoroughly enjoy dying eggs and eating a smurf ton of jelly beans.

The issue I have with all of this is that EVERY single one of these 'Christian' traditions are all stolen from other religions ... does that mean that any of these means that if you're a Christian you're going straight to hell for worshipping false gods?

Tell them it's a kick in the face to pagans everytime they celebrate it, because christmas is a stolen holiday.

when Christianity steals from other religions it doesn't matter because its the one true religion ... or at least that's what I was taught in school

Honestly, it's all a crock of smurf to me. I have attempted to explain that most Christian holiday traditions were jacked from other religions to Christians, that I know personally, who piss and moan around the holiday season. "Keep Christ in Christmas!; I will not say Happy Holidays, I will say Merry Christmas!"

Putting the hijacked traditions aside, Christmas is a consumer holiday. I will participate if I damn well please.

I've taken to saying Have a Merry and Festive Jul ... to the Salvos shaking tins on the street.

I get some evil fricking looks
