medication while BF

I have been taking percocet for my pain following a c section, and I just feel so horrible taking it and breastfeeding. It makes me so drowsy and makes my head spin.. I worry about how it affects my daughter. She sleeps all the time and idk if its because of the medicine..

I was taking it after mine, and breastfed. I absolutely had to- the recovery was horrible. They knew that I planned on breastfeeding & gave me that.

If it wasn't safe they wouldn't give it to you. Just remember that breastfeeding makes you very tired, especially in the beginning and newborns sleep all the time anyways. You don't need to be in pain. Don't worry mama you're not doing anything wrong

Newborns sleep 18 hrs a day, but it is possible for your nedicine to affect the baby. did you tell them you were bfing? i had a c section and they told me i could take one kind of medicine and it shoukd be fine, but the other to only take when absolutely necessary.

I just feel horrible   I've been trying to cut back on the medicine but I can't because I need it

Yes they knew I planned on breastfeeding. They gave me a prescription for motrin too but it makes my stomach severely hurt

Don't worry about it! I took percocet, darvocet, vicodin, dilaudid and morphine while breastfeeding my daughter (No, I promise I'm not a druggy). They wouldn't give it to you if it wasn't safe.

I only stopped taking mine because it killed my supply. I just stuck to advil and tylenol.

They gave me dilaudid & percoset while I was healing from my c-section too & I was bfing. I only got the dilaudid when I went into the ER because I had a horrible infection in my incision which was painful & they gave me a shot of that in the arm lol. I never had it before that though, but I was on percoset for longer too because of the infection & my incision reopening & needing to be packed twice a day which was painful. It took 3 months for my incision to completely heal.

Yeah since I had to pump exclusively it cut me down from like 9oz a pumping to 3.

I never get much out while pumping for some reason, I get like an ounce from each lol. I know I make wayyy more than that especially since my daughter is EBF or was, she eats solids too now. My mom said she couldn't get much out while pumping either..guess I have weird boobs.

I can't now either but it was either formula or pumping for over 5 weeks so I pumped since he refused to latch.

Not that I notice. I can still shoot it on command pretty much. He doesn't nurse a lot though. Maybe 8x in 24 hours for about 5 minutes each time.
