Really bad habit???

So my 10 month old has finally started sleeping thru the night in his crib, which is still only 2 feet away from me. BUT he still wakes up for bottles in the night, usually twice but sometimes 3 times. I've been giving them to him in his crib and I know this is bad for his teeth IF he just held the bottle on the milk pools in his mouth, but he drinks it, tosses it and goes back to sleep on his own. Is this a bad habit to start? Can it still rot his teeth? He'd still be having milk at night if I got him up and rocked him, and a bottle is all he wants, he'll cry and cry until I give him one, and I only give him 4 oz. But at least this way I get to go back to sleep :/ Did anyone else let their little one have a bottle in the crib?

Three bottles in the night for a ten months old seems like a lot. Can you give him a paci instead? It sounds like e isn't hungry just wants comfort.

I wouldn't let him personally. It's a bad habit and over time will cause his teeth decay and an overbite. It's hard now but worth it later.

Ya I don't want to rot his teeth, that's my biggest worry. He doesn't want the passy anymore at all and he used to love it. I don't know why he wakes up so much, none of my other kids had this problem. But even if I put him in bed with me so I can pat him when he wakes up or just comfort him he still fusses around until he gets a bottle. And it usually is just for comfort because I'll had him a 4 oz bottle and the next time he wakes up I find 2 oz. still left in it and he's tossed it aside. He Dr. says to let him cry and he'll go back to sleep eventually and then stop within a week, but I don't have the heart to do that  

Can you just give him water in the bottle? At least tht won't rot his teeth. He may still get an overbite if he sleeps with it in but if he just chucks it like you said it might not. You might need to make the water a bit warm for that comfort feeling??

waking up for 3 bottles is not sleeping through the night. I wouldn't give him a bottle in the bed, if he needs something to eat hold and feed him, put him back down.

I gave my son his bottle in his cot at round that age, and had no trouble at all getting him out of the habit.
Oh and his teeth are fine  

I haven't tried water yet, but then again he wont drink water or even juice during the day, just doesn't like it I guess. I know he isn't sleeping through the night I was just saying he's finally sleeping in his crib, which was a big ordeal to get him to do. I've had 3 babies and this is the only one I've had trouble getting to sleep thru the night. I'm 36 now...to damn old to wake up every 3 hours after 10 months still!I need sleep but I don't want to rot his teeth in the process. But if I get him up and give him a bottle he still has the milk on his teeth the same as if he drinks it on his own in the crib, since he tosses it when he's done.I feel like on one hand I'm being a lazy bad mom, and on the other hand I'm trying to help him get back to sleep and just looking for ways to comfort him

Thank you   How long did you let him have the bottle at night before you took it away? Did he eventually stop waking for one at night? I'm crossing my fingers that mine will grow out of this

He started having it in his cot from as soon as he could hold it himself. He got off the bottle altogether at around 12 months. He would wake maybe once or twice a week, and I would just sit with him until he fell back to sleep.

That was what I planned on doing too. A lot of the time he'll wake up and talk himself back to sleep, or I'll rock him for a little bit and he's ok, but not for long. It always seems like the milk in the tummy is what does it and I'm grateful for the chance to sleep while he can do this himself now. Thanks for your advice

Seriously though, the way I look at it is....if it works for you, and he does go back to sleep and he settles easier, then so be it. Don't worry about what anyone else says. And he will more then likely drop the habit himself.

Thanks! It is working for us, but I wont let him do it for too long because I don't want to mess up teeth. Its's cute how you call it a "cot" where you live, I've never heard that before. Here, a cot is a pull out bed with no mattress for adults :-P

I give my 10 month old his bottle in bed too. He only wakes twice. It's normal for them to still wake up at night. My oldest didn't sleep through the night till she was three . I also gave my middle daughter her bottle in bed as well around the same age and was able to ween her no problem before two years and her teeth are perfect. I do go in and check to make sure he doesn't fall asleep with the bottle in his mouth .
