Has your doctor not checked your for any infections yet? You would think they would before just assuming it's something else. And the copper IUD's don't normally cause infection BUT, it is possible for any IUD in general to cause an infection. When you get an IUD, I'm pretty sure you have an increased chance of getting pelvic inflammatory disease.

When I first started the pill when I was a teenager I got told you neede a full month before it started working. I have never taken the sugar pills. I just don't take anything for the 7 days. Then take the pill for the 21 days. It made my periods like clockwork but worse cramping.

I was told because of my endometriosis to take the pill and continually skip the sugar pills, and also because my periods were extremely heavy.

I would take a full months worth of the pill (keeping in mind you need to take it the same time each day and that antibiotics, diarrhoea and vomiting will mean it doesn't work and you can get spotting) and see if it has an effect

If they aren't really helping you like they should be, then I honestly would stop taking them. I'm the same way, I hate hormones. I have had paragard for almost 2 years and haven't had any issues with it, so if I were you I would definitely make an appointment to see the doctor after Christmas to get everything figured out.

If you're in pain and have smelly discharge/bleeding and your belly LOOKS angry and sore---I'd go to urgent care today. Waitin til after Christmas could allow time to go SEPTIC and your organs start shutting down, etc.
