question for ppl with iuds

posted 23rd Dec
okay I just got the iud this month on the 7th. I have paraguard. I got the iud because i dont want another LO for a long time yet. Im only 19. I just had my first LO when i turned 18. my question is i had sex on the 17 i wasnt bleeding that day but the next day i started spotting and it went into a full blown out period and ive been bleeding ever since. I talked to my dr and he said the bleeding would be normal for the first 2-3 months. He told me the iud would be effective immeditly. because i started bleeding the day after could i have a change of being pregnant again?

Theres always a chance with any birth control, but the same thing happened to me with mirena, wasnt bleeding, had sex, then had a period the next day that lasted over a week, then came back 3 days later...your super irregular with your periods for afew months with the iud....but if ur super paranoid like i was just take a test in afew weeks

I still freak out about it, your not alone lol. If the only thing that gives u peace of mind is taking a test then do it, but buy a bigger pack of them, its cheaper haha. It will get u through the first 5 or 6 months until u get used to the idea of not having to worry...im the type of person that if i cant see it, how do i know its there and or working? Lol that was the worst part for me, im ok now, its been about 4 months.

okay thank you both. i just never had anything like this. i always took the pill and after like 6 different pills i decided to go with something a bit more easier and i didnt have to worry lol. but i keep reading up on it and i know its a better way because i think the website said paraguard last up to 12 years and you can try and get pregnant right after they take it out. unlike the shot it takes awhile. im new to this so it kinda freaks me out a little bit. also when you were on your periods did any time of it turn to a blackish color? not trying to be gross but this past week my period was completely black for a few days and i didnt know if that was normal or not

I have the same thing. 2yrs come jan. I love it but there is a risk like everything else. Its very very slim. If the dr isn't worried about your bleeding don't be. I remember my 1st per after was a little more heavy then the ones following.
