That's really strange haha. I hate episodes of PP or Grey's when someone has a kid just for the blood, like the woman who broke her own water to have her baby at twenty something weeks just to get the cord blood for her other child.

Right? And then she's whining "save her!"
I'm like "you dumb b**** you did it to her!"

Yup, that's a horrible situation to bring newb into, even if they go to full term. How much would it suck to know your parents only had you to save your older sibling.

I always think that when I see that smurf, because the parents are very casual about it, those kids MUST have complexes...sure it's great they saved their sibling, but when the parents say "Yeh we had so andso to get the cord blood" ouch much :-\

I saw an actual case like this on some "diagnosis" show, don't remember what is was called. The parents actually had a second child and used the cord blood to save their first. It was a happy ending for them.

Anyways, I would not choose. I would ask the Dr. for his professional opinion and if he couldn't say which would have greater odds of survival and there was no way to save them both I would leave it in God's hands, even if it meant losing both of them. Neither life would be more important and there is no way I could possibly choose, EVER.

Definitely! Like if I really wanted another baby but medical issues made me have to move up the when I might consider it. But I would never let either of them know about it. I would let them know "you saved your brother or sister," but not "that's why I had you."

This is one of the reasons I'm glad I've decided not to have another baby. I could never ever choose one child over the other.

I wouldn't choose. I would let the doctors do it.

And it's all well and good to say "oh that's so smurfed to have one child to save another"

Until you've stared your dying child in the face, you can't honestly know why they would do that.

Could I choose? Yes, I could choose. And in a generic circumstance where they'd both have an equal chance of making it with help... I know exactly which one I would chose.

Quoting Jenna+1:" Can i post this here? idk but So I'm watching "private practice" and it's the episode where a couple ... [snip!] ... one of your children over the other/s? If they were all going to die but you could save one? How would you make that choice?"

I can't even think about this. Makes me nutty.
I guess I'd let the doctors decide based on who had a better chance of survival... it would be absolutely horrific, though.
