Here is my quick labor and birth story:
So I was having random but painful contractions on Thursday all day. About 4-6 an hour. I was up most of the night with my daughter who had a fever and not feeling well. During the night my contractions were getting a little more frequent and painful but still very tolerable. By 6am Friday morning they were about 7-8 mins apart but still tolerable but I knew that would be his birthday. About 7:30-8am they were getting more intense and about 5 mins apart and I had my bloody show. I had a regular ob visit scheduled at 9am so I called them to see if I should come in early or go to the hospital or what they wanted me to do. They told me to still come at 9am as scheduled. When I got there my contractions were 3 mins apart and I was dilated at 5-6cm and 100% effaced. I called my husband (who was on his was home from work) to tell him that we had to go to the hospital. I walked to the hospital (which is right across the street. I declined a wheelchair so I could help labor move quicker) After checking in I was put in triage (about 10am) until they could get a labor room ready. My husband got there while I was in triage. They didn't check me since I had just been checked at my appt and they knew I was in labor. I was planning to go natural for as long as I could and that was when I was asking for an epidural cause I was in alot of pain and it was coming so quickly. They finally got me into a labor room about 10:45am since it was at shift change and I asked again about the epidural. They still didn't check me. They said they were waiting for my midwife to check me. They told me they were going to get an IV going and half the fluids had to be in before my epidural. At 11:15am my contractions were so intense and I felt the urge to push. I told the nurse and she said fight the urge and they would check me soon. Finally at 11:30am (15 mins after my body is just pushing on its own) they put my IV in and said I could get my epi in half an hour. I was getting pissed cause they weren't listening to me and I knew it was too late. Within minutes of having my IV my water broke from the pushing. It SHOT across my bed. There was so much pressure. I totally freaked out and my nurse just assured me it was my water and it would be okay (even though I could see her face and KNEW she was very surprised) She came in and checked me and said I was fully dilated (no duh lady...I been telling you that for almost half an hour!) At 11:45am my midwife came in and said lets go. I started crying. I was in so much pain and it happened so fast I didn't feel ready. But I started pushing and it took about 3-4 pushes and he was out. Carter Devone was born Friday 12-21-12 at 11:53am. 8lbs 2oz. 19 3/4 inches. Perfect as ever. The beginning of a life on the day the world was supposed to end. It was beautiful.
