Changing a baby girl

posted 23rd Dec
I have yet to ever change a baby girl. I have a son and boys are easy. But I have heard with girls you can't use powder etc. Any advice would be much appreciated : )

I just took a dirty diaper off, wiped really good, put cream on if needed and put a new diaper on.

It's not recommended to use powder with either sex, because they can inhale it, but I used powder on my daughter. *Shrugs*

Same here. It is the only thing keeping him from getting rashes.

It's not recommended to use powder on babies period.
When you change your daughter, just make sure you are wiping from front to back, to avoid UTIs.

Didn't know there was a baby powder "rule"... Never use it anyway.
Just make sure you get all the crevices, they can get poop inside their vagina so you have to be careful!

Wipe front to back. That's the only advice I really have.

I used powder and all that on my daughter. But getting in all the little crevices was difficult. Boys you just wipe and there's not so many folds. Girls you kind of have to dig to find all the dirt.

My OB instructor (who is a midwife) said powder is not reccommended because of them inhaling it and getting into their lungs and with girls it can cause cervical cancer..

To me there's always going to be a problem with something, and something is going to cause cancer.

Once I realized that my daughter was sensitive and intolerant to her own pee and poop and we started ECing we didn't powders or creams any more, and by a year all her skin issues had resolved.

She said there are proven studies that show it causes cervical cancer. I havent researched it but we only have a son and we never used powder on him. If we have a daughter, I don't plan on using it then either.

I say the more natural the better!

Well what I meant is that now a days, they're going to find all this stuff that used to be used and was ok, and it's going to cause cancer. It's just been proven(obviously with studies like the one you mentioned).

I just shrug, it's going to happen all the time. But I do agree, the more natural the better. We try to avoid so many unnatural things.
