Frustrated. WWYD?

So, I made a custom order (crochet) for someone local. It's 5 child sized hats. 2 turquoise/pink owls, 2 turquoise/orange owls, 1 black with a turquoise mohawk. The mohawk hat could easily be resold, but the owls? I don't know about.

Anyway, I sent her a text when they were done, almost 2 weeks ago. She told me she was in Texas and would text me when she got back in town. Prior to this, she had ordered 2 hats from me before.
She got ahold of me when she was back in town and asked what the total was (because this was for a friend/live in boyfriend). I gave her the full total ($75) and told her in the spirit of Christmas I wanted to give them one of the hats free, so her new total was to be $60. All she replies to me is "Thanks" and I haven't heard from her since. This was 3 days ago.

- I explained the prices COMPLETELY before any deal was made.
- I've kept in contact with them as I was making their order.
- I gave them a timeline as to when I would be finished, which I finished on time.

And now? Now I have no idea what to do. I have these hats that are washed and ready to go, and she won't get back to me. I mean, I get that it's the holidays and I'm sure she's busy, but I need my money, too. How would you go about this?

Do you have a facebook or etsy or something like that that you could sell them on?
If so, I would only text her one more time, and then try to sell them to someone else.

Oh I have a Facebook. I have no worries that the mohawk hat will sell easily, but the colors on the owl hats (to me) look a bit wonky. I like the typical brown/other color owl hats myself. If I can't sell the other owl hats, though, I'm going to be out $60 technically.

I do want to get ahold of her again, but I don't want to seem too pushy about it.

How did you get in touch with her originally? Like how do you sell them? Etsy, FB etc...

Well IMO you have every right to be 'pushy'. You took your time and materials to do it, and she's costing you money.
And ya never know, there are people out there who like.. different things. Lol.
Someone might buy them. If not you could always try like a giveaway or something like that.

Originally, I had sold her 2 hats via Facebook. The list of pricing was there to see and it hasn't changed, ontop of me explaining it again.

After that, these hats were ordered through text/phone calls. I just texted her again, very friendly, trying to save this.

Lol that's true. Hell, I still have a newborn size one that's pastel green and pastel pink because the woman who ordered it never got back to me. I haven't really worried about that one, though, because that's just a $5 loss.

I'm going to have to if she doesn't get back to me. I told my husband I'd give her a week, and then after that they're going up somewhere to be sold. I've been told by a lot of customers that my prices are too low, which blows my mind lol. I don't want to have to raise my prices, but I can't keep having situations like this happen.

I make custom invites/printables. I've had this same thing happen to me before. I put time and effort into my designs and sometimes people just blow me off. My husband suggested I get paid upfront...or maybe half upfront. Have you thought about that?

Maybe start making them do a down payment and if they say "what if I don't like the finished product?" Tell them you'd be happy to refund all but like $5 for your supply's. I wouldn't mind paying like half or something as long as it was recorded like with a check or something. Then neither will get screwed over.

I've debated doing the deposit thing, but..I don't know. I enjoy making these things, so getting them done isn't an issue. And for the most part, I can re-sell whatever I make. But certain custom orders, I think I'm going to end up having to take deposits for so things like this don't happen. It kind of bums me out. I wish more people were just honest rather than this dodgy.
