Four wheeler for 3 yr old

posted 23rd Dec
What are your thoughts on a gas powered four wheeler for a 3 year old? My father in law wanted to get one for my son for Christmas. I said no! And he came back with "he's a boy he's going to get hurt you just have to get over it" I'm beyond pissed, and just wanted other moms thoughts on it.

My MIL bought my 20 month old an electric powered 4-wheeler for Christmas. It goes up to 4km/h (which I didn't think was fast til I saw it go) ... and honestly I'm a little terrified especially as it doesn't have breaks.

Right? Then I was like yeah he is a boy and he gets hurt all the time but I could just imagine taking him to the emergency room and explaining his broken bones were from him riding a gas powered four wheeler. He ended up getting him some kind of battery powered one from Walmart but he's still bitching because we didn't let him get the gas powered one.

The ones my parents got my son and nephew last year dont go all that fast, at all which is why i allowed it. Mind you my son was 4 at the time but my nephew was only 1 1/2. They loved it we put them in the back yard and off they went. I dont remember which kinds they are though.

Battery my dad was looking at a gas powered one for my son and i told him maybe when he was older and less dangerous. It doesnt have a break either you he just has to stop pushing on the peddle.

He ended up getting him a battery one, which I'm ok with. I don't think 3 is old enough to have a gas powered anything! He was like well he'll be 4 in April. Yep he will, but 4 still isn't old enough.

Really? My nephew and youngest brother both started riding at 2.5 on a little 50cc which maybe went 10-12 MPH. And both started racing by 5 years old. And I was on a snowmobile by the time I was four. I see nothing wrong with it as long as the people are educated enough to know how to operate them properly. . I have seen to many people who "think" they know what their doing bring their kids to the Doctors because they were not watching their kid as they were on the fourwheeler.

At this point my son just doesnt listen or pay attention well enough to be on something that goes fast. And i cant always trust DH to watch him when he is playing outside. Which is how he got his first broken bone this summer while i was at work. DH trusted a 14 year old with my then 4 year old.
