hormone levels?

posted 22nd Dec
I posted this in "pregnancy issues" as well but I figured I'd try here too, I'm feeling uneasy because of what some of the other mamas on here have said.

So my infos like this, my last period was Nov. 7th. according to a website I should have ovulated Nov. 28th and SO and I had sex on Nov. 29th. My next period was due Wednesday December 12th but was a no show so I tested Thursday and got a negative. Then tested Friday and got a neg. tested Sunday for the hell of it and got a faint pos. tested again a few hours later and got a faint pos. Then Monday I got two more faint positives called my drs office went in and got a faint urine positive followed by a faint blood positive with levels of 20. Friday I had an ultrasound because my periods have been messed up the last few months with missing a period in October and then it came a week and a half early in November. Anyways the tech didn't see anything but she said according to my levels it was WAY to soon for her to see anything anyways, that I probably wouldn't see anything for atleast another week if not longer. Other people on here freaked me out and said that it didn't sound like a liable pregnancy, I was misc. or that it might be a tubal/eptopic pregnancy.

Now my question is would my levels keep going up if it was a tubal/eptopic or misc? I tested around 5ish today and it was instantly darker then all my previous tests, so I'm assuming that means my levels are still going up right? I'm not bleeding or really that crampy, nothing un-normal besides being super nauseous 24/7 :/

Give it time and only listen to professionals and your doc. Levels can go up with a tubal but things are still very early to tell. Give it another couple weeks then they can see with a vaginal ultra sound. I'm sure things are fine!

Its just making me so nervous. I've had losses in the past so it just worries me that they didn't see anything at all. She didn't even see a sac and it was a transvaginal ultrasound :/

They barely saw my little one at 6 weeks. Give it another week or so. Maybe you ovulated later then you thought and can be a week or so behind? Try not yo stress to much. That's the last thing you need. Think positive thoughts mommas! And keep us updated.

I'm hoping to have my levels re-tested next week to see if they're going up right.

Its okay. But right now I'm not sure if they're going to do another level count. I'm going to call tomorrow and see what my drs says.

I havent personally went thru this, but i have a co worker that is now 14 weeks, but when she first found out she went to our county pregnancy resource center where they did an ultrasound and saw nothing. she had to wait damn near 2 weeks before she got her second ultrasound at her actual obgyn. Once she went in for the second scan they saw the baby. This was the issue she thought she was further along at her first scan come to find out she was actually 4 weeks at the frist and 6 weeks and some days at her second. so she was to early at the first which the baby would have not been visible!

Generally any ultrasound done before your levels hit 1500 will show little to no signs of pregnancy. I wouldn't worry just yet. There is a good chance you ovulated and/or implanted later in your cycle and the pregnancy is still very early.

Key things to remember about hCG levels:
In a bout 85% of normal pregnancies, the hCG level will double every 48 - 72 hours. As you get further along in pregnancy and the hCG level gets higher, the time it takes to double can increase to about every 96 hours.
Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.
An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.
The hCG hormone is measured in milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/ml).
A transvaginal ultrasound should be able to show at least a gestational sac once the hCG levels have reached between 1,000 - 2,000mIU/ml. Because levels can differentiate so much and conception dating can be wrong, a diagnosis should not be made by ultrasound findings until the hCG level has reached at least 2,000.
A single hCG reading is not enough information for most diagnoses. When there is a question regarding the health of the pregnancy, multiple testings of hCG done a couple of days apart give a more accurate assessment of the situation.
The hCG levels should not be used to date a pregnancy since these numbers can vary so widely.
There are two common types of hCG tests. A qualitative hCG test detects if hCG is present in the blood. A quantitative hCG test (or beta hCG) measures the amount of hCG actually present in the blood.
Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:
hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :

3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml

This actually just made me feel so much better. Thanks (: I've just been kinda stressed. I mean I didn't think I was going to see anything at the ultrasound anyways and I had no idea what my levels even were until the tech said she wanted to check and see what they were when she didn't see anything. She said the levels on Monday were only 20 and the ultrasound was done on Friday so they should have been what like 80 at that point (just a guess if they doubled the right way) and she said that she wouldn't be able to see anything really until they were over 1000 maybe higher and for me not to worry. Which I wasn't until what people on here were saying.

No problem! I fussed over my levels too after going through three losses in a row. It's normal and natural to worry. If your levels followed the doubling trend they would have been around 80 at the scan, but it's possible for them to have even been in a range of 60-200 in my opinion (not every woman exactly doubles.)

Are you scheduled for a repeat scan?
