5yo bicycle size!? *update*

posted 22nd Dec
Santa got Lambie a next size bike for Christmas, we went with a 16" because every site said it was for ages 4-8 and it's definitely bigger than the 12" she's had for the last 2 years. BUT...

Today, she was being teased by a few neighborhood kids for being on a "baby bike" [her current 12"], so we let her try out Kai's old 20" and she actually did great on it. She had a little trouble getting on & off of it [gracefully] and couldn't really use the hand brakes. But we can buy a 20" with a coaster brake no problem...I'm just wondering if it's still too much bike for her [see below pic].

Now, we're conflicted...and don't know if we should stick with the 16" or exchange it for something bigger. What does your 5yo ride!?

Can she touch the ground while on it?

I know with my bikes I like to be able to touch the ground if needed.

btw love the pic! Like I do with all of yours, lol.

16 inches. They need to be able to touch the ground while on it for safety reasons.

Only if she leans to one side, the bar in the middle is a little high. We would go with a girlier style bike too, something that dips down.

The other thing is...the 16" is Lalaloopsy, she's also getting Loopsy dolls and accessories from Santa so it all tied together. They don't have character designs in the bigger sizes...it would just be generic, pink or purple, glittery, girlness...lol

I would just go with the one you got. I am sure she'll get a good year or 2 out of it.

My DD got.a 16 inch for Easter last yr and she was not 4 till the end of July. It was perfect for her, lots of room to grow with it. Lol my 10 yr old got a 18 at 9 yrs old and is getting a 20 for her Bray in June she only got a yr out of the 18. Lol

My kids are short tho. Lol my 4.5 yr old is not even 40 inches yet lol but her 16 inch she only touches on one tippy toe. Lol

Deanna had a 12" one too, we got her the 16" Cinderella one for Christmas. She tried a 16" in Walmart & could barley get on & off, she's like 43". I'd stick with the 16" & get her a new one next year if she already out grows it.

We went with a lower profile 20"...the seat is all the way down, so she can touch. Tipped the handle bar back a bit and it's got the coaster brake, fits great with plenty of room to grow. I think the 16" would've been fun, but a little small for her.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
