re: Elective C Sections?

Quoting XavierRose:" That's dumb. The doctor can't know how big the baby is, ultrasounds are off as much as 2lbs. I have ... [snip!] ... epi stopped working, and my 2nd was measured at 8lbs while I was in labor and said he was going to be bigger...he was 7lbs 6oz"
Yep. I was told my oldest was going to be 8-9lbs, she was 6lbs 11oz at a week overdue. I had gestational diabetes with my youngest and she measured big the whole time. He swore up and down she'd be 9-10lbs. 6lbs 12oz. My OB and ultrasounds were WAY off both times.

Thank you so much!!! I wanted to hear from other people that have went through it. I rather do what makes me feel safer.

I don't know a single person who would do that, because the risks of a vaginal birth almost always are better than a c section.

Thanks. I also have had cancer twice which ruined my body. I have a lot of heart and blood pressure issues now.

Then it wouldn't be an el;ective c-section...it would be medically necessary, which is completely different

I've had a csection, it's going to be way harder for you to recover, the stress on your body is worse, the pain in HORRIBLE. I'd recommend doing all the research you can, and suggest against it unless you get to a point during labor that you need it.

I have done a lot of research. My blood pressure has been very high so labor worries me.

I had very high blood pressure too. Like I said, having been there, and fully "healthy" it was hard to handle a baby with a csection. I had one because my labor stalled for like 17 hours. Then I found out he was stuck in my hipsocket. If you think it's best, no one can stop you but I honestly do think to jump right to that is silly when you could end up with it easier on your body having a vaginal.

I didn't have the luxury of choosing (emerg. c-section, which went horribly wrong) but I would weigh out the pros and cons of having one.
I would have a serious discussion with the doctor, have him/her explain the risks, benefits, healing time, complications, etc vs. vaginal birth.

Agreed. I just caught up. If there's many issues that make thing dangerous it's not elective.
