Nail Biting and HOT Sauce

posted 22nd Dec
Anybody tried it? Did it work?

If not, what did work? My four yr old will NOT STOP. It has gotten so bad she is eating the nails and her fingertips are starting to hurt her. I'm at my wits end.

Someone I know used hot sauce on the fingertips and it worked for their daughter.
I bought the STOP nail biting polish but when i looked at the ingredients it is basically flammable chemicals. Hot sauce is at least natural??

I don't have personal experience but I'd be afraid that she would rub her eye and get hit sauce in it.

I was a bad nail bitter my mother tried black pepper, hot sauce, mashed up hot peppers, lemon juice, mittens you name it she tried it she said I would lick it off and then bite my nails worse. I finally stopped when I was ready the biggest problem with a nail bitter is one it's a control thing, it helps with stress because it is something that takes our minds of it and the nails have to be even and cannot have those white spots on them so I would suggest getting her nails done so they are not messy but it still may not curb the habit completely only time will

i've always kept her nails really neat that's what i don't get.

My nails looked horrible, they would bleed and hurt all the time and I kept chewing them until I wasn't upset anymore eventually it doesn't even hurt anymore just watch out for in-grown nails this can be a common problem with nail bitting but really it all depends on her. You can try everything and she will not stop until she is ready.

lol...

that's actually why i thought maybe just straight hot sauce might work. without all the chemicals. i put a teensy weensy bit on her nails and she doesn't seem to be biting as much. we shall see....
