I NEED ADVICE ASAP!

posted 4th Jun
OKAY. So I am currently breast feeding my 5 week old baby but am wanting to change her to formula as it would be alot easier when i am out as i dont like popping my boob out in public and im not to fond of expressing, but my boyfriend keeps sayin NO, KEEP BREASTFEEDING ITS BEST FOR HER, now i know its the best for her but im going a bit nuts, i think hes just saying that so he doesnt have to help feed her cos right now he only holds her occasionally, i change, bath and feed her, he has only ever changed a nappy once since she was born. I just dont know what to do now - i was completely set on changing her to formula but now i dont know cos people are making me feel bad and im scared that if she gets really sick or something when shes older that it will be my fault. Please help.

You already know that breast feeding is best for your baby..... now you need to decide if you're going todo what's bestfor the baby or what is most convienient for you.

im not critisizing. however, human milk is or human babies. if she gets sick its not your fault. but try to continue. if you cant. thats your choice. best of luck

i was not breastfed as a child and i have never had strep, chicken pox, an ear infection, a sprain, broken bone....**knock on wood** Other than a common cold and flu, i have been totally healthy!

Why dont you pump? Then you can save your breast milk and use it when you are out and about. Then you wont have to worry about your little one getting sick from changing formula, also will save some money... And your boyfriend can also help feed her if he choses too.

i advice you to take to his pediatritian(sp?). all babies are different.. you can do a combination of breast milk and formula. it will not hurt your baby or make her sick.. but just consider that first you have to take to her doctor to see what it's best for her..(what kind of milk). you can breastfeed at home and while out you can bottle feed. it wont hurt her..

I was not breastfed as a child. And yes, I am one of those mom's who didn't do it either. Ben has been a bottle baby since day one and he is fine. Growing like a weed and putting on weight the way he should. My GYN and his pedi both supported the idea BUT if I were you, I would make an appt with the pedi and dothe switch correctly. BF does not work for everyone for numerous reasons. Criticizing because it is "inconvenient" is not fair.

While I agree with xaymi, I have to add this:
The right pump makes all the diffrence! Expressing is much easier when you have a really good pump and BF can give baby bottles of breastmilk.

Way to make her feel like shit.

Op, if you decide to switch to formula, you're not going to make your baby sick. Every woman has to decide on her own what's best for her and her baby. Sometimes, breastfeeding just doesn't work out. Don't worry about your husband, he's not the one who has to pop that boob out every couple hours.

Kathlees is right on the money. Op said exactly that - breastfeeding isn't *convenient* for her. There are plenty of people who can't breastfeed, for whatever reason. Those who can, but choose not to simply for convenience are selfish. Being a Mother means putting your child's welfare before your own convenience.
