Flu?
posted 22nd Dec
Picked up DH's son this morning and his ex said he was sick and just give him tylenol. He's got a bad cough, 102° fever, and says his belly and stomach hurt. Gave him some more tylenol and he says it helps a little bit but he still feels sick.
When is a fever considered to be too high for a five y/o? What else can we do for him besides fluids and tylenol? Does this sound like the flu? We have a 5 mo old as well and I'm afraid he's going to get it.
TIA
Sorry for all the questions. I've never had to deal with a sick child his age.

Definitely sounds like the flue. I've heard anything over a 102 fever you need to take them to the hospital.

I know someone who took her 2 year old to the doctor and she had a 104 degree fever and it was still considered not high enough. The doctor said anything above 105 is when you take them in. But it does sound like it could be the flu. Have you tried to give him Motrin alternating? If it doesn't go down I would take him in

Ya! Motrin/Ibuprofen is the one that helps bring fevers down.

alternate tylenol with motrin/advil and wait it out. A fever has to be at least 105 for an hour and not come down even with meds, or be over 102 for 5 days before they suggest having them be seen.

This is what I've been told

He's feeling better. Still had a bad cough, but the belly/headaches and fever went away.
Thanks ladies!
