severe sore throat and high fever

I have had a severe sore throat(can't even swallow my spit without tearing up) for 4 days and a very high fever(between 102 and 104). I've been using tylonel and motrin and its not helping. I don't have health insurance but its so bad I went to the ER on Thursday and they gave me a shot for pain and tested me for the flu and strep. Both came back negitive.
So they sent me home. I don't know what to do. I haven't slept for days, I fall asleep only to wake up within minutes because I swallow. I've never had pain in my throat like this without having strep. What should I do? Nothing is helping.

They didn't even give u a z-pak to b safe. I can't imagine that's not strep. That sounds awful

I keep crying cause it hurts so bad. They didn't give me anything. I haven't eaten or slept in days, I literally feel like I'm dying. I can't even care for my children.

Gargle with salt water. It stings but it helps tremendously.
Chloraseptic either the spray or the lozenges
For the fever you will probably have to ride it out. It sucks but it will get better.

Do u have like a cheap walk in clinic you can go to? I can't imagine. I wanna die thinking about it   you poor thing. Sometimes the walk in clinics are more willing to give u something. I hate going to the ER.

And it could have been too early when you went in to see the ER to show up as strep.

However a sore throat and fever can be signs of a cold too

I'm using cepacol(they are a cough drop made with benzocaine) and clorasepric spray. Nothing is helping.
At what point do I need to go back? I mean could it be strep but the test was wrong? Like I said I've never had such pain without it being strep.

Yes it could be strep. It could have been too early to show up on a rapid test. They should have done a culture as well but I know hospitals are different so probably not

Me either. Usually it's a sore throat from like sinus drainage or fever while I'm fighting a cold. But Everytime I've gotten both it's strep. your kids haven't caught anything? My SO doesn't have insurance so they always just look and if it looks streppy they just give him antibiotics. He always feels better as soon as he starts the antibiotics. His fever breaks and the sore throat always dwindles from there. Before that it's hell.

My children haven't ever gotten strep(yet! Knock on wood!) My husband just got over the flu a week ago. But I don't have any flu symptoms and tested neg.for the flu at the er.

Just got home, I couldn't take the pain anymore and went to a different ER. They reswabbed my throat and I do have strep. She said my throat and uvula have scratches all over them from the severe swelling, my throat is actually bleeding   they gave me a steroid shot(ow!) And an antibiotic shot(hurt worse than the steroid shot!!) And sent me home with a prescription of liquid vicodin.
