She was horrible because I wasn't able to leave the hospital, move, do anything besides lay on my back and do nothing, and I wasn't allowed to eat food until I had my epidural out and at the time I didn't understand the fact that I could've asked for it to be removed, and then been able to eat. I was not eating the entire time I was in the hospital till after I had my son. I was allowed ice chips and those little sponge things of water...which sucked. I don't know if you've fasted for 4 days but unless you're physically sick...it's not fun.

Because I wasn't aware that I COULD! I was uninformed before I went to the hospital the first time, I hadn't studied up on anything as far as labor went. I didn't know I could've asked them to remove the epidural. I didn't know that I had options. I'd never seen anyone give birth before, let alone been privvy to the experience. So excuse me for not being a labor and delivery nurse and knowing everything.

um... every other patient seems to know this especially since federal law states that you must be made aware of this

the pediatric doctor woudlnt' let you move or eat until the epidural was out? 4 days? what 4 days?

first... you said you went in on the 28... and delivered on the 30th. then... you said baby was exposed to 3 days of epdiural... now you're complaining you didn't eat for 4 days because of the epidural? wtf? how many days??

also.... another thing.. you complained about the epidural not working and you felt everything.. but felt no urge to push? you complained about getting stitched up wtihout any local meds... but they rarely use local meds with an epidural in place.. just FYI

we dont' think that at all. there are some smurffy nurses out there.. and some smurffy doctors. if your story was consistent.. even consistently smurffy- then ok. But you keep changing it.... and it's just not possible.

My First Labor

So, I don't know if anyone else has gone through what I did with my son. It was the perfect first pregnancy. Sore, but nothing too painful. When I got to 35 weeks I thought "Oh, HOME STRETCH!!!!"

I went to bed on November 27th 2010, and woke up on the 28th with incredible cramps and a feeling of wanting to vomit. I ran to the bathroom because I felt as if I was going to be sick. My mother came into the bathroom and insisted we go to the hospital because she was pretty sure I was in labor. However I wasn't in that much pain so I assumed I wasn't.

We arrive at the hospital as I'm skype calling my husband in Kuwait at the time that I was about to go into labor and delivery. We get upstairs and they tell me I'm dilated to a 5. How did that happen? I get told I will be recieving an epidural though I didn't understand why I wasn't asked, and instead told I was getting one.

So, it's the morning of the 28th I'm on my epidural and slowly dilating and effacing more.

Evening of the 28th the pediatrician is saying that they'd like me to be sent home, however upon checking my cervix they discover I'm 100% effaced and dilated to an 8, so leaving the hospital is out of the question.

I spend most of the day of the 29th wanting to vomit because I am now 100% effaced, and 10cm dilated, however I'm being denied the ability to push by a sadistic pediatric doctor because she says that my son is not ready to come out yet. (Obviously something is ready!)

It's not till the afternoon of the 30th at 1:00pm am I allowed to start pushing. I push for a total of 40 minutes, and out pops my little "Boo-Boo" Isaac David Ferbrache. He had a hard time breathing at first a) because he was a lazy breather due to extended epidural exposure and b) he had a cord wrapped around his neck twice.
However he's born 7lbs 10oz and I was later told that he was most likely a term baby if not over-term baby.

He spent a total of 5 days in the NICU because of the breathing issues and was released.
