Suing the Maker of Mirena

posted 22nd Dec
I've seen a LOT of stuff lately about how dangerous mirena could be. Im now actually wondering if whats happened to me could be cause to a justified lawsuit.

A few years ago I had uterine polyps.... HUGE blood clots that were the size of my fist or bigger were coming out of me every hour. I was very, very sick when I went to the doctor. The only reason I wasnt hospitalized was because anemia can take months to recover from, and itd be better to do it at home. I was seriously sick though and needed surgery.

My doctor said the Mirena helps to not have polyps. Due to my experience I gladly said yes though I HATE smurfing hormones.

Well not too much longer after getting the Mirena I started to get severe lower back pain. Got some xrays and saw that nothing was wrong... my doc thought it was my back and possibly a hip fracture. All was well.

I then started to bleed like, literally, all the smurfing time. I started to get ovarian cysts. Lets see, I have had procedures to drain them (that smurfing HURT), surgery for them, I've tried different meds. I was on birth control to control the cysts and they still formed. I am on constant pain meds... Im talking about morphine and percocet. Its been HELL, and Im always, always in smurfing pain. Ive been on such a high dose of pain meds and for so long that my doctor said I WILL go through withdrawals and will need to taper myself off so my body doesnt go into shock from it. I am on meds to force me into menopause, I STILL hurt.

So now after seeing this smurf on mirena... is it my smurfing mirena doing this? I had it in so I wouldnt get the blood clots but now Im thinking that the clots are better, and if it happened again Id just get a hysterectomy. Its better than this. Do you think the mirena could be the cause? If I was part of the suits I see on tv against mirena would it also be against my doctor? I LOVE my doctor, I dont want to get him in trouble, ya know? He was trying to do whats best for me... I seriously was really sick with how much blood I lost. But if my mirena is the cause of my pain... well smurf.... I need to get this out.

Thoughts? Are those lawsuit commercials real or is it some kind of farce?

Idk but forced menopause and a hysterectomy seems really harsh and could cause an overload on your body. How old are you? I'm.sure there are some natural things to treat your issues. Sorry you are going through that. I would stop the birth.control

It really is just so hard to prove. With your prior history of issues they could probably say all the issues you are having now would have happened anyways and its your body to blame not the mirena. It could really go either way without hardcore evidence. Did your Dr every for sure say it was the mirena and would s/he testify to that? IMO without that their lawyers would probably eat you alive and with all your pain and things that might be a huge burden to bare. Either way I really with you well and hope your pain goes away!

I turned 29 a couple days ago. And yeah, I am young to be going through this. I was getting so many cysts that were huge, thats why the menopause was started. I mean I had surgery in oh, I think February/March of this year and a month later the cysts were back. That was AFTER draining cysts and trying meds to get the cysts and pain down.

Seriously, I take extended release morphine twice a day, and STILL take percocet. Today I took 5 1/2. So this tells you how much pain Im in all the time.

Ive been on daily pain meds for like, 3 years. Previous to that it was for a nerve problem. But its now been for my uterus, and my doctor is adamant about me being in hell with withdrawal. He stressed last time I went in that it is NOT going to be pleasant, but he will make it as easy for me as he can. But he knows Im in pain and is trying to help me, but ya know, I still smurfing hurt!!! Im sick of uterine problems!

I'd sure as hell get Mirena out and see if your pain and cysts go away. Can't prove its the M without seeing if it goes away after you take it out.

Mirena gave me severe IBS that didn't go away til I got that smurf OUT!

And your doc should always attempt takin away meds BEFORE adding more when symptoms show up after a new med is started...no way I'd accept MORE BC when I was already on BC... Especially since all hormonal BC is known to CAUSE clots, NOT treat them.

That sucks bad. I'm so sorry. I would get off all hormones ans birth.control. I would try a dietary change. Have you heard of the gaps diet? Dairy or gluten.could also be a contributing factor. I can look up some other stiff for you too.

Id be a smurfing stick without dairy or gluten. I do not eat any meat and have already lost so much weight... dairy and gluten gives me some weight. I dont drink milk either, lol.

I NEVER had a problem before though. To a different poster... I have been to the doctor so much the past few years I can pinpoint exactly when things happen to my body. The polyps was odd and we dont know what caused that, but Ive always had a somewhat heavy period. I never took birth control under this doctors care, I dont like it. I have gone to the doctor at least once a month for 3-4 years, so its very very very easy to have a trail of "Well this happened then, this happened next, this medicine was introduced, etc..." and show that it was not happening prior to those appointments. Oh, I also have had bacterial vaginosis twice, and never EVER had that before. My SO and I were monogamous too, so again, thats another problem I think its had. The added birth control was to attempt to get my hormones to stop forming the cysts, but after 2 months we gave up because it didnt do a damn thing.

I dont know if my doc would testify to say it was mirena, unless I took it out and things got better. He is a great obgyn and I love him, he truly is trying to help me. He almost started crying when I cried two appointments ago because Im so sick of the pain. I was so against getting an IUD but the blood clots I had coming out of me left me so sick I jumped at it because my life was smurfed to smurf. I slept 20 out of 24 hours a day I was so anemic. I couldnt breathe... I thought I was having a heart attack at the height of anemia. But the surgery I had did NOT show any cysts before then. I got the IUD after recovery from that surgery. I then started to get cysts within oh.... maybe 2 months of having the IUD put in and no surgery or procedure has kept them at bay.

NO LAWYER will take the case if you are still using the product you're trying to sue about.

That's like saying you want to sue because bad tires caused you to wreck, but you keep the tires on your car and keep driving...

Plus, you can't prove it was absolutely the Mirena without getting it OUT---plus, now that you suspect the Mirena is the cause, WHY wouldn't you WANT IT OUT as soon as humanly possible so you can possibly stop feeling so awful all the time?

I said in the very first post that if Mirena is the cause then I want it out.

I JUST saw the commercial on TV about Mirena yesterday. So yes, I want it out as fast as possible but I can't snap my fingers and have it done when I literally just started thinking "Hmmm.... I wonder....."

Honestly I don't think you would be able to sue them.

Its probably your own body doing it as you said you had problems before mirena.

If anything maybe the mirena made the problem worse but it probably didnt cause it.

Maybe look up the instructions of mirena and see what it says Im sure your not meant to take hormones and stuff like that if you have a history of blood clots?

Yeah I just dont think it would of been mirena doing all that anyways.

If you tryed suing you would probably spend more money on suing that what its actually worth and get nothing back...

The hormones in mirena keep polyps away. And typically, birth control isnt for people who have blood clots like in their veins, thats not what happened to me. I had huge blood clots out of my vagina... I thought it was a period that was going insane until I sat on the toilet and dropped a fist sized clot into the toilet. THAT scared the smurf out of me. But the mirena is commonly used for uterine polyps because it has the hormones needed to stop the growth of them and something about the IUD stops te uterus itself from being able to house the polyps. They are called polyps, but essentially they are blood clots.

Like I said, I was so damn sick then and mirena was the only thing they could do to allow me to keep my uterus. I probably wouldnt of had such a problem if I wasnt so stubborn in going to the doctor beforehand.

How about coconut or almond milk? Nuts have lots of good fat and protein, fish, leafy greens, seeds, avocado, olive oil, coconut oil,
Also there are lots of gluten free breads and such.

Wow it must be tough to function

Have you heard of the gaps diet?

1 tsp bob red mills baking soda and black strap molasssrs in warm water has been known to regulate the ph. If used once a day for 3 weeks. Bacteria vaginosis is caused by an irregular vaginal ph balance. A diet 90% in fruits and veggies can help regulate your ph.

And yes remove the mirena and all hormones asap

Hope you feel better

Yea you do. You mix 1tsp baking soda and some black strap molasses in some water and mix on the stove until warm and resolved. If you are pregnant I wouldn't do it just to be safe bc a major shift in ph can alter your body. I would do it for about 5 to 7 days.

Triggers of bv for me are sugar, alcohol and period or sperm. Sucks. I've really had to majorly changed my diet to regulate my body's ph.
