7+ years between kids?
posted 22nd Dec
I have a 4.5 year old and don't plan on having another child for at least another 2-5 years. Anyone else have a "big age gap" between their 1st and 2nd kids? Please share your experience, pros and cons.
Thanks

My brother and I are 15 years apart. It is like we are two different family's. (same parents)
I am not that close to him, but my younger sister is. They are 18 years apart.
I think we arent close because I am the total opposite personality wise from him and my sister but I wish we were closer. I think 7-8 years is about the longest I would go in between kids personally.

My husband and I have a ten yr old, 3 yr old and a baby due any day! I think the age gap between our first two is not good! Our three year old has been above average on his speech and things like that but, there is so much difference in age it is hard to them to play together. The ten yr old wants to do legos and draw things and the 3 yr old wants to play guns and hot wheels. It is just a difficult age gap since ten yr old is getting ready for puberty and has a bad attitude! Rubs off on the little one for sure! I think 3-4 yr apart is a great gap!

My brother and I are 12 years apart and it's weird since he and my daughter are the same age, so he's like my son not brother.

I wouldn't more than 5-6 yrs personally...

My brother and I are almost 10 years apart. Honestly, we don't like each other, we're always on different plains of life, and even though I'm married, an adult and a mother, I'm still inferior in his mind.

I would have loved to have them close in age, but my ex partner (sons father) did not want any more children. I am in a new relationship now, and we both want more children. Just not right now. Things are great the way they are at the moment, we both have good jobs etc. But we would like to have 1 or 2 more kids in the future. I have heard a lot of "not being close" relationship with siblings of this age difference, but I've also heard a lot of the older one being very enthusiastic and understanding of having a new sibling.
If I could have another one now I would, but it's just not an option at the moment.

My oldest and middle child are 5 years apart, and it's rough. my oldest is 9 and middle is 4...My 4 yr old idolizes his older brother and wants to do everything he does, and my 9 yr old wants nothing to do with him...I think it is hard for kids when there is a big gap in ages without siblings in the middle.

My youngest sister is almost exactly 10 years younger than me. I actually can't stand her. I have 2 sisters between us that I'm not really close to either. I used to be like bff with my sister who's 3 years younger than me, but then she hit like 17 and got really annoying and stupid, so

That's what I'm afraid will happen with my daughter (now 3) and our future kid/s down the road. :/ She and her brother are 13mos apart and they get along great, but DH is *totally* cool with waiting until she's in high school even, to have another (I miscarried our 3rd pregnancy two months ago -- otherwise we would be having a baby this coming May. He or she would be 4yrs younger than my eldest). The idea isn't pleasant to me, to say the least.

I'm the oldest out of my siblings, the next oldest is seven years younger than me, then 11 years younger than me, then 14 years younger than me. We all get along great! Even though I'm a lot older than them we are extremely close, I'm always the first person they go to when they accomplished something or need advice. I remember changing all of their diapers and wanting to take care of them 24/7 when I was little. I'd even take the oldest one outside to play with my friends and I in his stroller.

O_O How old were your parents when they had you vs when they had your youngest sibling?

Me and one of my brothers is 16 years apart. And I have a daughter thats just 2 years younger than him. I think its weird, because when he's around I treat him more like my kid than my brother.
