cat scans

so my son has something wrong with his kidneys and they want to do a cat scan and they want to sedate him.. he does have autsim so i was wandering has any other ladies gone though this maybe can ease some of my worries.

What are you worried about? I'm an xray tech. I don't do ct's but I have while in school. Are you just worried about the sedation?

that and what they are gonna find. because they think he has a narrowing somewhere. he also done a urine test and some of the test came back abnormal but he didn't expain them to me

Sedating him is probably the only way to get a good scan since they take at least 15 minutes. It'll be ok hun, they do these things ALL the time. They know what to watch out for it there's any type of reaction and have a doctor close by. Your LO will just be a little tired for a while afterward.

I'm not sure about what all issues are with the kidney's but the dye they will inject will be seen on the scan images so if there is anything abnormal like the narrowing you mentioned, then that will definitely show up. You need to ask the doctor more questions like, what do they think it is, what would happen if it is that, what would you do to treat it, would it get better on it's own with out treatment, etc.

thamk you for the kind words. i feel a lot better now.we have been fighting high blood pressure and left kidney faulure for awhile

That's so scary. When my LO was born (traumatic birth) he had a brain mri, then had another one at 8 days old and it showed so black "dead" spots on his brain. We had no idea what effect it would have and had to see a nuerologist till 9 months to check his development. Now he's 3 and perfectly normal and VERY smart.

My daughter had an MRI done about a year ago and she had to be completely under. She has PDD-NOS and did just fine. I'm sure things will be okay. Good luck!!!
