Spinal meningitis

I don't know much about the situation..
I do know my "step" uncle took his baby to the hospital it has spinal meningitis.
Is it contagious? My daughter is 1 then I have two boys 5 and 7.
I'm thinking if they bring the baby to Christmas we might just stay home.
What would you do?

Depends on what kind of meningitis, but I would stay away!

I read online even people who are around the someone with certain types of meningitis I guess can be like carriers.. So the dad if he goes could possibly spread it? Or is that really unlikely.

when they suspected my SO had it they made me stay at the ER because anyone around him would have needed to be tested and treated, that would have been anyone in a week he had been around

Yep. Baby might be symptomatic and dad could be a carrier that doesn't present symptoms because his immune system is better.

Bacterial is not after 24 hours of antibiotics, I thought.

It depends.

I had viral meningitis in April. It is very painful, but not contagous, and not deadly.

Bacterial meningitis, feels just like viral, but very contageous, and over half the people who contract it are dead within two days.

Odds are, if they are talking about the baby being ok by Christmas, it's the non contageous kind.

well my husband was really sick like the ER doctor thought he was not going to make it to the intensive care unit.
