posted 21st Dec
Please explain it to me- as I know nothing about it. I might be interested in trying it...

Whats the difference between cloth and regular diapers? Why do you or dont you cloth?

We clothed because it is cheaper, and no chemicals on my baby's bumm. Also it turned into a hobby. Lol

I just started cloth when harper was 6months old and she is almost a year now   We use pocket diapers which are cloth diapers with a pocket and you put an insert in the pocket part to absorb the pee. I ordered through co-ops so my diapers and inserts cost me around 5.00 each and the good thing is they do not lose value so you can resell them for that once you are done. Also the pocket diapers I have are one size so 5 to 35lbs so I am hoping to use them til she is potty trained. It is very easy to wash. I do an extra rinse then a hot cycle with 1/2 tbsp to 3/4 tbsp of all free and clear, extra rinse then dry the inserts, hang dry the diapers. Stuff them and then they are ready to go. I only do laundry on diapers every other day. I also use cloth wipes so I have actually saved alot of money in the end   I have over 20 diapers but really only need about 15 diapers to do laundry every other day.

We cloth because it's cute, fun, healthier, cheaper, and better for the environment.

Ohh thats awesome! Sounds pretty good. So do they stay in a diaper all day and you just change the inserts or what? Is poop messier?

With pockets, no. You have to change the full diaper. With prefolds and covers you can just change the prefold and wipe down the cover

with the pockets they hold well for a good 3 to 4 hours at a time with a charcoal bamboo insert but you have to change the diaper with each changing. Now if you did covers/prefolds you would change the prefold and wipe out the cover and keep going   Poop most the time rolls off the suedecloth inside but sometimes I have to put in the potty and swirl around to get the excess off and flush. Don't worry if you have some poop on the diaper it will wash away with the extra rinse and then the hot wash will take care of the sanitizing of the diaper.

This. I also am getting a sewing machine soon, and going to make my own.   I will be staying home after baby is out, so I will enjoy the free time to craft and make money from it. It saves money for moms who use them. I have been stocking up slowly, and have about 10 diapers (at 10weeks gestation). I'm going to keep buying and stocking up until baby is here because they come in one size fits all (5-35#). I have a hand cranked washing machine, called a wonder wash and that is how I wash the diapers.

We use pockets. I love them, they come in cute prints and minky fabrics. You just put the inserts in then, usually 1 during the day, 2 at night. Change every few hours like you would a disposable, but instead on chucking them you just separate the inserts from the pockets and chuck them in the washing machine. I use birth to potty too, so the size is adjustable and they will last him til being potty trained.
We do a wash about every 4 days, a cold rinse, a warm wash with half the detergent, no softener then another rinse. Hang and dry. Then you stuff them again with the inserts and reuse. We mainly used them for the amount of money you save, once you've bought them you never have to buy disposables again. The difference in DS' skin too is amazing. He never gets a rash and never stinks. We use washable wipes and I make up my own solution too.

I ordered my first few diapers from (I have a few WAHM diapers but mostly alvas) http://www.facebook.com/groups/staceyalvacoop/

I really like the 4.0 Double Gusset Alvas but the regular 3.0 alvas are fine as well. As far as inserts go microfiber is the least of my favorites. I before 4 layer blend inserts, 4 layer bamboo or charcoal bamboo inserts. I do have some 3 layer bamboo that I use as a doubler for night time (since my baby sleeps 10 to 11 hours straight)
