Ultrasound/finding out the sex.
posted 21st Dec
Just a quick question for everyone..
I know where I live,
at your "20 week" scan they won't always tell you the sex of the baby for legal reasons. AND you have to sign legal documents if you chose to find out, stating you know it's not a guarantee that is the correct gender.
Has anyone else ever been told they can't give you a direct answer of the sex for this reason?

Never heard of this before. I'm sure it's to avoid abortions due to gender though.

I know in china they are not allowed to tell the gender because of abortions but never heard of here in the USA. With each of my boys they ask "Do you want to know the gender?" yup of course! I never had to sign anything to learn the gender.

They have probably had people attemp to sue them because they were told wrong. My little brother's birth mother claimed she did this with her daughter because they told her she was a boy and she already had her nursery painted and all her stuff bought. But I seriously doubt it happened because she also claimed her first was a preemie and when she was pregnant with LB his mama asked the dr (same ob she had with her daughter) what the chances were of LB being premie because her daughter was. The dr looked at her like she was nuts and told her that the daughter was not preemie!
Anyways, there is always a chance that the ultrasound tech is incorrect. They are just having you sign the paper to cover their butts!
