Does it matter? (D&D)

posted 21st Dec
I put this here because it has the potential to become a debate. I guess... lol.

Does your reaction to certain things depend on who they're coming from? For example, if someone you know and someone you dont know are in the same situation, would your reaction be different to the two people? Does it matter if you know them? Does it matter how long they've been on here?

I'd like to think my reaction is the same for all things regardless of who they are friend or stranger.

Yes, it absolutely does matter. The longer you know someone, the better you can understand why they say what they say or behave the way they behave.

I think it matters, as well, to an extent. I think I would understand someone I know or have conversed with more's reasoning and thinking better than someone I dont know.

However, I will say that I have lost very close friends on here because they said or did something that nothing could excuse.

Oh, i'm not talking about major things. that's understandable. Im referring more to little things, or their personal decisions.

For example... I've talked about TTC on here (and only on here, not irl ever) multiple times recently and everyone seems to be pretty supportive. I've also mentioned my SO living with me, us having not been together that long (though ive never disclosed exactly how long), etc. and everyone is STILL extremely supportive. However, i've seen people rip into newer members or people that they didnt know for the same things, hell...even *I* have expressed my disapproval of other people doing it   at some point, before i was in the situation myself....

Me too, that's why I was asking if it mattered. I mean, with me, I feel like if it was someone I knew I would understand their reasoning and since I knew them I would feel like they were doing what they felt best... but when it comes to people you dont really know you kind of just assume that they're stupid and not really "thinking". KWIM?

Exactly.

For me, it's easier to be more judgmental of people I don't know. If I know then, I can usually reason out WHY they would say / do something, but if I don't know you.....I can be pretty harsh.

I react differently to people that I'm not close with...

A good example is a good friend criticizing me vs. someone I don't know as well...someone on here...a semi-new friend.

Yeah, I've reacted differently to different people regarding the same circumstances. I think it has a lot to do with expectations.

P.S. I totally thought of this when I read this post.
