Autism

Myself and my fiancee are taking custody of my 1 year old niece soon along with having our son born very soon. Little Shy i am told shows signs of autism. What can i expect from a child with autism and how/when can we tell for sure if she is? We would never change our minds about keeping her and raising her as our own but we would like some advice and what to expect from parents that know from first hand experience. Thankyou in advance!

You can expect to love that child even more. Be prouder of that child when they accomplish the smallest of task. They are a true joy I tell you. I have two nephews who are Autistic and I couldn't love them more when they do the simple things in life. They are high performing Autistic children and can function better than other Autistic children. My oldest nephew loves to sign and dance a lot. My other nephew is enrolled in the public school system and does well academically.

My cousin has a son who is also Autistic but is not as high functioning as my nephews. He doesn't talk in sentence most people can understand but his family gets him. They are the closest kit family I have ever met. He is a preacher and his wife stays at home to take care of the kids. They are very involved in the Autism Community around here. And they look at there son as a gift from good.
