Potty training advice?

posted 21st Dec
My daughter is 3 and has been potty trained since she was 2-2.5 years old. She's hasn't worn a diaper during the day in over a year, and up until recently, only wore a pull-up at night. She was doing really well with holding her urine at night, so I haven't bought any more pull-ups. She went an entire month without wetting her pull-up. For some reason, she's started wetting the bed more frequently. She's done it several times this week, and she does it every night I'm at work. Her dad says he takes her to the bathroom before bed, but I don't know if that's true. I don't have an issue with washing her bed, but I have to wash her stuffed animals, too, and her favorite bear can't handle another washing (I've been hand washing him and letting him air dry). I'm thinking of buying some more pull-ups, but I don't want to take a step backwards. Any thoughts?

What are those, exactly? I have a vinyl sheet on her bed.

it's a stick on pad so if she wets it won't go through to her sheets.

Oh, they're like the chucks pads we have at work. I didn't know they made them for kids. I'll have to see if I can locate some. Thanks!

I learned this in a class... A child isn't fully developed until about age 7 to have conscious though on controlling their bladder. Yes it happens a lot sooner than that but that is what I was taught

Is there anything that has changed recently in her life that may cause it? Does she drink anything before bed? Does she wake up at night?

I know my 22 month old will stay dry all night unless he wakes up in the middle of the night. He also goes to bed with a cup (which I know you aren't supposed to do).

She always has a glass of milk before supper, but that's not new. The only new thing is the fact that she doesn't wear pull-ups anymore. I think they were her safety net.

Overnight training is a pure developmental thing that may or may not happen until the child is 7 or 8. Putting an overnight on her isn't going to set her back. She can't help it.

I've just had a lot of people tell me not to put a pull-up on her. They think it's lazy or something. They say "washing the sheets isn't that hard."

Well let THEM wash the sheets then   It's not lazy, and how do you think your daughter feels tossing around in wet sheets until the AM?

I sister wet the bed until she was 7. She tried not to I know she did but she couldn't help it. I say buy the pull ups it is worse IMO to make her think something is wrong with her because she needs them. KWIM?
