Gun control question

I asked DH about this last night and he didn't really know so... since so many BG mama's are passionate about the issue on both sides, I thought I'd ask y'all.

If gun control was put into place, what would become of the guns that were made illegal that had already been purchased legally? Would they expect people to just come hand them in willingly without compensation? (some of the AR-15s can and do cost upwards of $1000). Would officers come hunting down those who have registered illegal guns to take them away? What about people who have sold or claim to have sold them? If you sell a gun to someone else, you're not required by current laws to keep a record of the transaction (this varies by state but is true in MS).

I'm really curious about how that would work. I just can't see people going in and willingly handing over their guns.

I really mean this more of a discuss rather than a debate, but I know how these things turn out sometimes...

no one is gonna hand over their guns, and no one is gonna come door to door searching for guns.. all you gotta do is report it lost or stolen.. then what gun????

Last time they did an assault weapon ban, they grandfathered in the weapons currently in possession. I personally would "lose" mine in a boating accident.

Honestly, handing our guns (if they banned certain ones) over to the authorities would be awful. I think DH and I would have a very hard time with it. With that said, we ARE law abiding citizens, and we would obey the law. However, if it was a complete ban...I'm honestly not so sure we'd go down so easily.

The ones that were already legally obtained prior to the ban could be grandfathered in. At least, that how it was done in other situations like this and I'd assume they would do it like that again.

As long as I can still purchase a gun I don't care, I'm not planning on shooting up a school just protecting my baby. If they take that away we're moving

That would be good (to be grandfathered in) my brain didn't even go there. Duh.

Do you think they were grandfather in the ones out now? There are way more out there now than there were last time.

As long as you don't sell it, you can keep it.

It would be like those that were already out there legally are still legal, but no new sales.

I'm a rule follower, it is in my nature.

We would not obey if told to hand over all of our guns, not a chance.
