Grandfathering means that people who have already purchased the guns that would be banned get to keep them. Or if your cell phone provider decides to do away with unlimited data--we had AT&T at the time and they let us keep it--those who had it before the change get to keep it.

A grandfather clause is a situation in which an old rule continues to apply to some existing situations, while a new rule will apply to all future situations. So, if they were grandfathered in, the people that legally obtained the weapons before the ban would be able keep their guns. They wouldn't be forced to hand them over to anyone or anything like that because there was no ban when they legally purchased that weapon.

Do you think that some of the more extremist supporters of gun control would be satisfied with a grandfather clause?

Likely not, but how will they stop the gun owners? If they don't believe in guns at all, who has the advantage? The gun owners do.

No. I probably shouldn't have said, "My husband and I.." in my first post. I think he would be livid with any type of ban.

Here, they do a gun drive where people hand in their guns with no questions asked and, they give them a gift card or something like that for a grocery store I believe. It takes a ton of guns off the street every year here.

That's what I was wondering. (about hunters)
DH is a hunter, everyone in his family is and some in my family too. In fact almost everyone I know who owns guns is a hunter.
