I also wanted to add that the name discrimination I am talking about happens generally during the hiring process, you can hide your face and pretend it doesn't happen - but it does. Again - not fair, but when you come in and your name looks like an uneducated teen named you, it doesn't look good. Statistics say that if the parent lacks education, it's very likely the child will also lack a decent education, so they ARE basing the judgement off of valid information, not just on personal bias, again - not right, but that's how it is, especially when they have their pick of who to hire at the moment.

My sister is Hannah! Do you live in an area with a strong religious community? I've noticed that Hannah is used more commonly in the bible belt and such - that being said Hannah has literally been around forever, it's a beautiful, classic established name that has a huge history to give it a backbone, so don't feel bad about it. I wish my name was LESS popular with my generation.

I doubt that it's much of an issue since name trends happen all throughout time. With all the "tryndee" names out there it's going to be pretty common for people to have "juvenile" names.

I wouldn't count on that - and yeah, it happens literally ALL the time, I wrote an entire paper about it in college. (I majored in HR). Yes, there are tryndee names out there right now, but classical vintage names are JUST as big. At the end of the day, Sophia will have a huge advantage over someone name McKinzy or some crap.

Ah, that explains it. I'm a Cassandra, I was born in 89 - it's not SUPER popular, but I do come across other Cassie's quite regularly. I love my name, though - it has great roots in Greek mythology, I just wish it was less common! My little sister was almost an Ashley, lol - so glad my mom came to her senses.

Names DO trend, but show me another era full of Payzleigh and Prinz?

Oh.

Classic names always prevail.

Ever meet a doctor named Harley Quinn?

Probably for good reason

Oh, and before anyone jumps my balls for naming my son Basil, research before you make yourself look foolish, thanks.

I really hate the name Sophia lol. My niece is named MacKenzie (well one of my nieces). I just don't really think there is such thing as a "child's name" because everyone grows up eventually and that kid name is still theirs, which makes it an adult's name.

I think it becomes more of an issue if the spelling is butchered or the name itself is just completely ridiculous to begin with.
And name discrimination also happens more with minorities. Like if a name "sounds black" or "sounds hispanic" you're automatically put at a disadvantage. That's why my SO's parents named him Briant. You can't tell he's black just from his name.

There are sounds in names that sound childish. Typically - names thhat end in an EE sound is viewed as more juvenile than something that ends in an A, for example.

And again - you can have your opinion, but the fact stands that name discrimination happens and A LOT of it has to do with names sounding juvenile.

Yes, ethnic names, too - but it happens with ALL names that sounds ridiculous and I am sorry - Cambrie sounds silly and childish. I HATE that it goes towards ethnic names, honestly, it's smurfing ignorant. I mean, the whole thing is ignorant, but at least ethnic names are....you know, ethnic. Not bullsmurf made-up names with stupid spellings. But you are right on the spelling thing - if they can't pronounce a name the first time they look at it, then it will likely be thrown out.

Ugh, I have a study I want to show you, trying to find a resource for it online, it was done by Harvard, I believe, it showed a correlation between someones level of education and the type of names they choose.

I already said I don't like Cambry. I do like Cambria though.
My sisters and I all have uncommon/hard for people to pronounce and spell names. I do agree that some names are just stupid as hell (like I knew a girl named Special whose brother was named Unique), but I think with the "tryndee" generation coming up people are going to be more used to it and be less picky as long as the name isn't like Shalaylaychockamonkeyboombam.

Our names are Dejah, Syan, Taryn, and Rayna.
