Depo Shot at 6 week Appt

If any of you got the Depo shot at your 6 week pp appt were you told a certain amount of time to wait to have sex unprotected? I told my nurse and doctor I bled for 2 weeks after giving birth to my daughter and haven't had a period yet, I got the shot today an the doctor said it's good immediately but the nurse said to wait a month while the other doctor in the practice said to wait a week. When I got the shot after having my son back in 2008 I was told it was effective immediately as well. What are your experiences? Thanks ;)

I had my depo today and they said to wait the usual 7 days and I'll be protected. I think if you get it while you've got your period you're protected right away, but if you haven't had one or are on any other stage of your cycle you have to wait a week

Absolutely not lol my doctor will not tie tubes before 30 and does not like Implanon which I wanted to get and wants me to wait 3 months to get the Mirena if I choose that...it's like she wants me to get pregnant again, I had to beg her for the shot today

To hell with that, I'd be going to another doctor... They can't turn you down for contraception because they don't like it or don't think it's suitable can they? That's crap.

Apparently she can, I already signed and had them fax the release of my medical records to go back to the doctor that delivered my son...only thing I can't stand some of the office staff cause they are bitches but i'd rather have a doctor I actually like

What's bad is I just talked to a girl that goes to the same practice but a different doctor at the practice I currently am at, she is younger than me and has 2 kids as well and her doctor is willing to do a tubal whenever she wants...my doctor said I have to wait till i'm 30...thank goodness I found the other doctor office where they will do it and I should have it done by the end of January

Yeah I've heard some docs won't do them until you're a certain age.. my friends sister has had five pregnancies, one stillbirth and four live children and she's 25 and the docs won't do it just in case she wants to have kids later on. I think they prefer to do the vasectamy beacause it's an outpatient procedure and it's more easily reversed.

Thats what I heard too...im glad I found the doctor office in going to get it done at. A friend of mine that got the clamps loves it because those are even easier than vasectomy. They just go in and remove the clamps and you have no problems from what she was told...of course its pretty expensive to undo it lol but im 100% set so I dont care about that lol
