Emergency ! ( BreastFeeding )

posted 20th Dec
Hello everyone I am a teen mother and I've been breastfeeding my son and pumping my breast for 3 weeks and 2 days now , but at home I do not have a very strong support system and I am find it hard to keep my milk established. At first I had everything under control and I was pumping at least 3 to 4 ounces from each breast every 4 hours. And for the last past couple of days I have only been getting 1 or so ounces and Im becoming very discouraged, because I dont know what to do. I have others around me telling me not to breast feed because I am teenager, but this is something I want to do for my son and myself. I just cant figure out why my milk supply is becoming so low and I really need help I try to pump and breast feed my son as much as possible, but I find it much harder now and I refuse to give in so easily .. I NEED HELP PLEASE !!!

Just breast feed more instead of pumping
And after you nurse the baby pump afterwards

Why are you pumping? If you're breastfeeding on demand you don't need to pump too.
Pumps suck anyway, I breastfed my son for 2 1/2 yrs with no problems and I could never get anything out with a pump. They don't stimulate your breasts like baby's mouths do therefore you usually don't get as much out from pumping. Your baby is still getting enough food, don't worry!

My best advice is to nurse as much as possible. Your milk comes in better when the baby is attached. Pumping will still help you produce milk but the more the baby is at the breast the better. Don't get discouraged by people around you do what you feel is best for the baby and yourself. It is very hard at first but once you are comfortable and 'know' what you are doing it gets much easier. Good luck.

You are doing great mama! Not many teens bf and I am so proud of you for doing what's best for your LO.

Are you going to school, is that why you're pumping?

Nurse him on demand as much as possible. His suckling will really boost your supply.

And just because you're not getting much with the pump doesn't mean u have a BA supply. Your breasts regulate and a pump becomes less efficient as baby nursing.

When I went to school I fed her and pumped right before I left. Then I pumped as soon as I came home and then fed her. This really helped.

A lactation consultant told me that fenugrek and blessed thistle will help bring up your milk supply. You can find them at your local herbal remedy shop.
