Rock in ear, ER bill.. Like YIKES!

Ok a couple of weeks ago, my daughter pushed a rock into her ear. I took her to the ER, they got it out after like 10 mintes. Today I got the bill. Now I know going to the ER is expensive but over $500 for one small rock?!!?!?! Like really? No meds, nothing special. Am I overreacting?

That sounds about right. You may also get a separate bill for the physician's fee.

sounds about right. It cost close to $200 just for the doctor to walk into the room.

Naw, hospital bills are so uber expensive mainly because of the changes in health insurance. They kidn of have to make up for the losses they would ensue due to nonpayments and other things related. I took my DD to the hospital for an ear infection and the bill was outrageous! Thank god her insurance covers it all because I would be one broke ass momma.

Sounds right. There's a flat fee to just walk in a room.

Good grief! I don't think I'm gonna tell DH. I'll just pay it off quietly and try not to think about it too much. Ugh. We do not have money for this right now.....Thanks for the responses ladies!

Make sure to call them and work out a payment plan. If you don't pay the amount in full within a certain amount of time, they'll turn you over to collections.

Yeah we dont' have any insurance for December. We only get Chip in January so this bill is hurting already.

Yeah I've been there and that sucks. I'll try and call them tomorrow afternoon.

After paying nearly $600 for them to tell us DD was fine (she cut the roof of her mouth no big deal) Now we have another $200 physicians fee on top of that. All for nothing basically.


OH and we have medical insurance too.

Good thing she didnt need a bandaid and tylenol, that bill would have been about $100 more

I went to the ER for a miscarriage (my OB told me to) and it was $1000 for the hospital bill and $500 for the physician bill. All they did was draw blood!

Free!? Like $0? Man I'd love it if it was just reasonable here. I don't mind paying but this is kinda nuts.

You might actually be able to call Chip and see if they are able to help with the bill at all. Sometimes they can pull a few strings to help others out. I can't guarantee they will but it won't hurt to call.
