Quoting sillygirltracyb 12/25:" well it could also be that i know that my sister was my dad's favorite.. and i could NEVER (and still ... [snip!] ... post.. but I try to give them all the same.. but bc of her attitude and stuff, it makes it sooo much easier to punish her.."

Have you tried praising her for the stuff she DOES do? She sounds like she is begging for your attention and the only way she knows how to get it is by getting in trouble. Maybe she is depressed? When was the last time you guys were alone together? Is she happy about the new baby?

Quoting Maria + Cory = Alexis:" My mother would give my brother cash for getting B's on a report card. I was an honor roll student and ... [snip!] ... showed up late for the graduation and left early. My brother enrolls into college for one term and they couldn't be prouder. "

See i would never do that or some of the other obvious stuff that people hav put on here.. As much as I dread the band concerts.. I still go and i go to everything for them all...

But on the subject of my sis and me.. ya.. i would put her in the "loser" category but she was "the baby"... she goes to college repeatedly on GI bill money and NEVER has earned anything more than a couple of associates degrees.. She's in school now AGAIN.. she probably has more college hours than to get a PHD..

I went through highschool and college also top of my class.. magna cum laude, and very successful career (and maybe that's why i expect my daughter to do the same).. All the things that I would be proud of my kids for..

I did tell ALL of the kids, even my husband's who doesnt live with us.. that if they get full-ride scholarships. i will buy them each a $30,000 car. in 4-1/2 years though, that may not be much..

i didnt read the comments, but i read an article a while ago about a study showing that it is human nature to favor one child over the other.
usually the mother favors the oldest son while the father favors the youngest daughter.

this is not the article i read since mine was in a german science magazine, but it says a lot of the same things the article said that i read, except much shorter.
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-favorite-child/201007/favoritism-does-exist

either way, this is something i am terrified off when this baby comes. i feel like i could never ever love anything as much as i love my daughter.
my parents always favored my brother, though i think my dad prefers me over him but doesnt speak up enough in front of my mom to avoid drama. it hurt like hell growing up. still does and i dont even live with them anymore.

it doesnt talk about how the mother usually favors the oldest son while the father favors the youngest daughter in this article though.
but the german one i read explained it pretty well. it has something to do with seeing the positives and similarities from yourself in the other gender basically.
something about fascination etc.
i really suck at explaining this kind of stuff but it was very interesting and made a lot of sense.
