Breastfeeding around older children?

posted 20th Dec
I have an almost 3 year old girl and a 4 year old boy. I didn't breastfeed either of them, but I do want to breastfeed with this baby. They have never been around anyone who breastfed and none of my family has breastfed that I know of so I'm not really sure how to explain it to them.

My son had pumped breastmilk when he was little until around 3 weeks. I am now breastfeeding my 8 month old. It has never bothered him, he was curious of course, but no problems.

Wait until they ask & just simply reply..boobies/whatever your kids refer to them as are food for the baby. the baby is drinking milk.

You should definitely breastfeed around them, it will be great to show them early on that babies breastfeed and have them grow up seeing it as normal.
Just tell them baby's eating and that's how babies eat!

We were living with my in-laws when my oldest was born. My BIL had just turned 6. I would feed DS but covered with a blanket and I swear my BIL would ask every day what the baby I was doing. I would say he was eating. BIL asked eating what and DH said boobies  So every time after that BIL would ask and I would say baby was eating BIL would say boobies? Yup. So I don't advise saying boobies but I would say milk

It's just normal, you just do it and explain that your boobs make milk to feed the baby.

My 3yo still remembers breastfeeding (we weaned 18 mo ago on his 2nd b-day) and he is very excited for his sister to come out and eat boobies ---

According to him: boobies are yummy and they'll make her grow big and strong so she can play with me!!!

He's pretty much got it figured out

My daughter is almost 5. I only bf her for 3 weeks and she's only seen my friend bf a few times, and that was years ago.

She still bf's her babies, if you ask her what babies eat she'll say milk from the mom's boobies, and she knows I'm going to be bf her sister.

Awww is he going to start again? My son weaned at 2 1/2 because my milk dried up from pregnancy but he cannot wait for the baby to come so there's milk again(for him) haha.

No. He doesn't need it for comfort anymore and he hasn't asked if he can eat any. If he asks if give him some in a cup, though. He's just HUGE to direct nurse IMO (nearly 40lbs and 40 inches tall and just a big kid). Definitely not baby/toddler like at all. Totally growing up way too fast.
